OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

why?
And why didn’t the players pay a price.

The team should of been suspended for this year and paid a stiffer penalty

However this would of created a shit show of litigation , grievances etc... from the players union

League is about to try to hammer a new CBA soon , this would of been a clustrfuk mess

The owners / players are all to blame . There was no mechanism in place to stop this and its all on Manfred and MLB

This is like Silver trying to go for the jugular knowing the Raps paid off refs and other officials to fix the title for us

The severity is 10x greater than giving a team a moderate penalty than stripng the Raps title

Force the Astros to play at the Big Owe this year. No franchise would ever try to cheat.

Yeah, you can't really penalize current players for mistakes of the former players. So what a lot of people are suggesting definitely make no sense and have no chance of happening.

That being said, I definitely think there is enough evidence around that they could have officially vacated their title. I mean, it's not like you can take away the emotion from the fans who went through it back then, and all you're really doing is putting an asterisk officially in the record books. The way both the Astros and the league have handled this has definitely caused it to be a ton worse than it could have been.

Heck, if the Astros PR essentially came out as a "we cheated, and we are terribly sorry", with the players admitting to everything, that would have gone a long way to people not caring as much. But the fact that they came and basically have said that it doesn't matter that they cheated, it just pushes people the wrong way.

Its a shit show and all on Manfred and his staff . So the commish is chummy with the owners . Owner knew WTF was going on and approved for the players to go for it .

Do you force the owner to sell the team , this is all about saving face

This is a total shitshow, and Manfred's job is potentially in jeopardy. But the punishments were pretty strong. I don't agree with stripping them of the title, it's tainted now anyways. I just don't see any upside to doing that.

As for punishing the players, it's a fair argument but Manfred has 2 super strong points in his favour: 1. This was the best way to encourage them to answer questions fully and honestly, and also avoid a year of grievances and court bullshit, and 2. He sent out a memo in (I think) late 2017 saying that if this type of behaviour didn't stop he would be holding GMs and managers responsible. So he stayed true to that because it really was AJ Hinch's job (and to a slightly lesser extent, Luhnow) to stop that shit. They did it, they were warned, and they kept on doing it. And those 2 guys paid the price.

Aaron Judge acknowledged that he deleted his social media post congratulating Jose Altuve on the 2017 MVP after the Mike Fiers story broke. “I was sick to my stomach. ... To find out it wasn’t earned, they cheated, that didn’t sit well with me.

Just because im bored, Jays predictions for the year.

1) Shun Yamaguchi wins the 5th SP role but finishes the year on the pen through no fault of his own
2) Rowdy starts in AAA in favour of Joe Panik as the team prefers to have a fluid DH for Teoscar, Vlad, Fisher and Alford
3) Lean Vlad is an offensive beast, but while his glove improves its still bad.
4) Ryu isnt CY good but is a very serviceable ace.
5) Shoe, Anderson, Shun and Roark all offer cromulent 2 WAR seasons.
6) There are often injuries and Thornton and Kay each make 10 starts to respectable results
7) Nate Pearson tears up Buffalo, arrives July 2nd and is Jays best SP in 2nd half.
8) Teo, Grichuk and Lourdes combine for over 100 HR but dont get on base and are not giid enoygh defensively
9) 6 Jays, Vlad, Grichuk, Teo Lourdes, and Shaw hit 30 or more bombs.
10) only one of the 6 posts a wrc+ over 110
11) Danny Jansen and Reese McGuire provide a top 5 C duo.
12) Jays are buyers at the deadline and add JD Martinez and a RP
13) Beyond Giles, and Dolis then pen is a mess a revolving door until July when Yamaguchi joins from tge rotation and Thornton and SRF from AAA
14) SWR finishes year as top 20 prospect
15) Jays finish 87 wins. Miss playoffs

If all that happens, it's a fantastic season. I'd say about half those might come, and the team is a hare under .500 (80-82)
