There was a time (several times in franchise history) when the Jays would be the most likely team to pull off the big moves.
This guy apparently has connections with the Cubs and saying a big move is coming shortly (he confirmed it wasn't Schwarber signing with the Nats)...a Bryant + Hendricks combo would be a nice consolation prize for missing out on Lindor/Carrasco.
You know Bryant had no intention of signing, right? That’s why he lasted until the 18th round. He was a first round talent, even out of high school. AA took a flyer because he has balls, but there was never a deal to be had.Lol you guys.
Bryant could be a Donaldson level acquisition. Would need to be resigned of course. That would write the wrong when AA didn’t sign him after the 2010 draft.
"I feel [the Blue Jays] had other priorities in terms of other guys they picked and trying to get those people signed, and then they work on guys who are tougher signs later on," Bryant said. "I guess they just never got to me. It was way different the second time [I was drafted in 2013], obviously. I knew where I was going to be picked, I'd performed really well.
Fair enough. Bryant isn't wrong about the Jays having other guys, in 2010 they went way over slot to sign their 5th round pick, Dickie Joe Thon. They gave Thon first round money ($1.5M)Bryant went on record and said they never got to him. Not sure if that means they didn’t offer a contract or if they never got to negotiate. Either way a miss.
not throwing shade at AA. With hindsight obviously a miss. You won’t get a deal done if you never offer one. Likely wouldn’t have gotten him regardless.
The Jays are the most name dropped organization in MLB. They're seeking everyone and everything, all the time.
That is the only explanation. The Jays are too aggressive. Its very off putting.Did we maybe pursue him too aggressively, scaring him off?
