OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

trading Bo a SS in his prime, only to sign Bregman a 3B on the downswing is fucking mental.

Bregman only makes an ounce of sense if you keep Bo, long or short term.

I mean, it depends on what you get back. If you don't see Bo as a long-term SS, trying to cash in on him while people still remember 2023 isn't a terrible play.

I struggle with the idea that they get peak value for Bo from anyone right now

And i cant justify Bregman under almost any circumstance, but the lone one where i can is where they load up in 2025.

That deal is going to age like milk on an Arizona window sill

Smartest thing to do is just to pay Bo now while this disaster of a season is fresh and creates a bit of a discount because he's super likely to bounce back and remain a 4-5 win player for the duration of his contract. Also, once he's paid he probably will give far fewer fucks about remaining at SS.

Swapping bo for bregman does make sense tho. Having Bo at SS kinda sabotages the all-D approach. Bregman lets us upgrade the D while not losing anything offensively.

And the money change there should be neutral.

Losing 6-5 is way more exciting than losing 3-2

Also usually easier to trade for arms in season if we're bashing but the pitching is holding us back.

Boston will get Bregman
San Fran will get Burnes

We will be linked to Teo who goes back to the Dodgers
We will be locks for Santander who goes to the Yankess

Boom, Juickson Profar 4 year deal, Nick Pivetta 2 year deal.

Last place.

Don't know that paying SS prices for a 2B is the way to go.
Yeah, not only this but if you try to force him over to 2nd he may get real pissy about it. Any attempt to re-sign Bo Bichette with the idea of moving him to second base has to be done with his consent upfront. And I can see why he wouldn't want to do it since he's still only 26 years old.

Want to be clear, I do like Bo and am 90% certain he bounces back in a big way this year. Which is why the Jays are correct to say he's available, but not at a huge discount. So I wouldn't be looking to run him out of town.

But if we get a good offer, I would listen, especially if his salary demands are unrealistic. Again, this is not a profile that generally ages well after 30. So a 4-5 year deal to play 2nd would be great, but he may be asking for 8 and SS, at which point that money is probably better spent elsewhere. And if he's traded, Gimenez can play SS and probably do it better.

Normal Bo would have been the 2nd-3rd best stick in the majors at 2B last year and his okayish defence probably grades as plus there as well. Not so far off of prime Jays Robbie.

Yes. Please.
