OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

nice, jays actually DFA'd the awful Turnbull to activate Scherzer.

enjoying the more ruthless FO this year - seems like them needing to earn their next contracts has them prioritizing wins over asset-collecting this year.

I think Green goes when Yimi comes back, and DFA'ing Turnbull certainly makes this Pina trade make more sense.

Listening to Blair and Barker in the background.

Blair telling a story about R.A. Dickey after he wrote his book having stacks in the locker room. Josh Thole, his personal catcher for years who features fairly prominently in the book goes up to grab one.

R.A. Dickey- " 21 dollars"

On the one hand, the only reason Josh Thole ever had an MLB career is Dickey, otoh, hilarious, and somehow, not a flat 20 bucks.

I like the Pina pickup regardless tbh.
I feel the same, but if you DFA Turnbull and Max's thumb explodes you just have Adam Macko.

So it's more that i just get the timing.

The kid they moved is an overager but a position player converted to a RP that throws 101, so at least somewhat an interesting lotto ticket.

Also, just musing, knowing what we know about this FO i tend to think when they go for their guy at the deadline this year it's going to be akin to when they went for Robbie Ray, or a guy with term and money.

I dont know that they have the farm to go for a Peralta, Alcantara, or Cabrera if they move, when you consider the Cubs and Dodgers are probably in on those guys.

I do wonder about a guy like Zac Gallen, who has been objectively terrible this season, but if you think you can tweak him, he could be cheap, or if the A's want to recoup value on Luis Severino, the Pirates Mitch Keller or the Royals Seth Lugo ( he should cost as much as the big guys though).

Barring that you have the firm B tier rentals in Kelly, Heaney, and Buehler.

I also think they still need a bat. They were linked to Alonso, and for me nothing has really changed. At minimum Davis Schneider and Myles Straw as top RHH off the bench isnt serious, and it sounds like Santander could be out kinda long term.
