How about leave our elite closer that’s locked in long term. Prospects in baseball are THE worst. Been following my entire life and I swear almost none of them ever pan out in trades like this. Remember Kyle Drabek? I thought we were getting the next Roy Oswalt. If anything I’d be looking to do more of what Atkins has done in the past and look for another Varland. Griffin Jax last year type of trade.

Yeah, I kinda was looking at that Lindor rumor and thought, even if we're out of it, why not get these guys and have them ready to go next year, if we're just going to retool and expect better health and luck?

There are a lot of questions about Lindor's defense, attitude, and how his contract will age. It's a really interesting discussion, but I think I'd rather sign a stopgap (which I think Gimenez was meant to be) and wait a year or two for Nimmala, with JoJo Parker also a potential option there, rather than sell the farm (which probably would have to include Nimmala) to bring in a 32-year-old SS. Shortstops generally get moved to another position when they get into their thirties since Father Time is undefeated, and Lindor has put up just 1.3 WAR this year (after being worth 5.5 to 7.7 the last 4 years). His defensive numbers were down quite a bit last year from where they were previously, which were pretty high-end. So did the D decline already start last year?
I guess if the Mets lowered the price enough wanting to get out from under the contract and we could keep our SS prospects, it'd make more sense... then just move Lindor to 2nd in a couple of years when Nimmala is ready. But is that worth $34,100,000 every year until 2031? Just a 108 wRC+ this year, could be the start of a (likely) slowish decline...
Again, I wouldn't be totally opposed, but would prefer to spend those assets and money on a younger SS, or to address other needs.

Like, if we could flip Gimenez for him straight up, sure, I take that. It's definitely not worth giving up real prospects for. But whenever a guy gets to that age and starts to show weakness, you need good scouting to know if that's a blip, or the beginning of the end.

Gimenez + decent prospect for Lindor. He’s old and not likely a long term SS solution. Both teams kinda get what they need more of. We get offense. They get defense.
But I’d be looking at moving off the olds and building a new core of guys that can contribute in the Vlady age range.

Lauer 6-0 with LA, threw 6 shutout innings giving up just one hit tonight. Fantastic since the trade. I don’t understand why we had to dick around this guy and then throw him away for nothing.
