OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

lol yeah I was thinking Dustin Mcgowan for some reason....

Either way I'd probably believe an Eklund rumor before I'd believe a Mccown rumor. The guy is just a TV/Radio personality, should not confuse him for having knowledge of sports.

You don't think that after decades in the industry, he has any contacts at all? He definitely knows a shitload of well-connected people on a first name basis. He has been out in front on stories before, I can assure you he didn't hear something like this from the person serving him a coffee.

Obviously if it was a done deal, it would be done already. But it sounds like the Jays are considering it. Definitely wouldn't surprise me.

Eklund has contacts too, doesn't mean he's a creditable person.

McCowen says he's heard from several sources that Gibby may get fired tomorrow

I can just imagine AA telling the team. "Good series guys, You won two out of three games against one of the top teams in the MLB, outscoring them 15-5 and oh, by the way, I just fired the skipper".

Tonight's game . That Buehrle, he does it all. He hits, he bunts, he fields his position, he slides trying to break up a double play and he pitches a complete game shutout. If he can catch he could be a one man team or at least a super-sub.

There is reasoning to firing a coach/manager after a win.

It can then appear to be a decision made off overall team play and not a knee jerk over a loss

Reyes is nearly done with the Jays. Once Jerry Howarth calls you out, you are done.

I will always remember when he called out Vernon Wells and Alex Rios for being talented guys who did not work hard and relied strictly on there talent to get by.

Jerry is one of the best announcers and nicest guys out there.

When he loses faith and says it on air, there is a problem. Zaun has been very clear on it.

“It’s like, wow,” the shortstop says of his reaction.

“I don’t know (why he said those things), because he’s a guy that says, ‘Hello,’ to me every single day,” adds Reyes in his first public rebuttal. “If he’s got a personal problem with me, he needs to come talk to me to my face, like a man. Some of the stuff there I disagree with, because what he says is what the fans listen to, that’s what the fans are going to believe.

“I hate when people say, ‘He’s having too much fun.’ I’ve been in this game since I was 19 years old, did you see a different Jose Reyes? No. You see the same guy every single day, nothing changes. I can go 0-for-5, I can go 5-for-5, I’m going to be the same guy. I’m a happy guy, people have to deal with it.”

Howarth should shut his hole. Last thing this team needs.

He's also called out Bautista and Dickey, they are still here.

i could care less how nice of a guy is. He's a snake, and moreover an idiot.

I've criticised Reyes several times on the same issues, especially his seemingly nonchalant play at ss. However, it is one thing for fans to express their ever changing opinions and frustration, but when someone like Howarth is that blunt on air does it, (twice) it gets a lot more notice and comes across as very much a personal attack rather than an opinion at that moment. I'm torn about the right or wrong of Howarth being that harsh while at the same time understand Reyes' reaction to the comments.

After reading that entire article I did feel some sympathy for Reyes. It seems he was more upset about the source of the comments than the comments themselves.

Howarth and Gibby are buddies and I don't think Jerry liked the daggers that were out for Gibbons, especially after watching a great SS be replaced by a guy whose errors are costing us. I think he reacted, and I'm sure he regrets some of it...at least saying it out loud.

...I'm sure he feels the same about the outfield, but he knows Cola and the replacements didn't belong there.

The team is still much better off with Reyes then Goins.

I would like to stats geeks to start crunching numbers.
Reyes can hit, that's it...but we have a team of hitters so how important is he really on this team?
We've seen that Reyes does not make plays, and those plays have turned to runs.

I've seen with my own eyes that Goins routinely makes outs that others might not, and often enough makes plays that nobody makes (He is, IMO, the best defensive SS out there even if it's super close).
So if he is preventing runs, how does that measure up against his hitting?

Think about having Travis and Goins on our infield. I'm sure the pitchers would like it.

It's strange...he is not hitting nearly as bad as last season but it's like people are watching him through last years TV or something.
