OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Why do they keep running Garcia out there? It seem that anytime I’ve watched he dig the hole a bit deeper moving the Jay out of any chance for a comeback win.

😳 Maybe it’s me. If stopped watching when he pitches they might fair better.
 
this was always going to be a tough one as Shane McClanahan may be the best pitcher in the American League. Rays pulled him after 7 innings and 82 pitches...

Meanwhile Kikuchi looking more like a 5th starter. which is of course what he is. Hopefully they can bounce back tomorrow.

Kikuchi has been very hit or miss this year. 4 starts he's been pulled in the 5th or before he's allowed 19 runs in about 17 total innings of work. The other 5 starts he's allowed 3 runs total in 29 innings of work. Basically he's been either an ace or AA fodder every start, with nothing in between.

Need Kirk to bounce back. Varsho's statcast metrics actually aren't bad, other than an egregiously high popup rate. He's getting hard hits, his LD rate is solid. He's not pulling the ball as much, but that's not a bad thing. His xwOBA is actually fairly respectable. So hopefully he can turn it around.

Kirk, on the other hand, just isn't hitting it hard. His exit velocity is down a lot, and his groundball rate is ticking up, which is very bad news for a player of his speed and stature. For a catcher, he's still fine. But he's not looking like someone you want as a DH anymore. Which is a real shame, since it was exciting to think of someone with a bat good enough to play at DH but that you could also slot behind the plate.

Manoah is a huge problem right now. 5 walks again today in 3 innings. Feels like lazy analysis to say he's struggling with the pitch clock cause he's a big guy, but it's gotta be a factor. Pitcher injuries and blowups are way up this season, and a lot of people think the clock is a factor here.

Maybe they do have to consider sending him down for 2-3 starts. Tough cause he was so damn good the last couple of years.

I went to a game last weekend and was really impressed with the Reno’s. Kudos to Shapiro for a job well done there. But the results are poor on the field. Year after year.

I went last weekend and the stadium is great. Big step forward. Also judging by the number of hipsters hanging out in the standing room only zones not even watching the game, it’s a cool place to be. Next year after they reno the 100-level it could be almost a good ballpark again.
