OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Wasn’t bad by Francis’s standards.

Jays still have a negative run differential despite the hot streak of late.

I’m cheering for this team, as always, but don’t want them to go all in at the deadline to chase down the second wild card again.

Competent management with the capacity to build a system is this organization’s #1 need.

Skipping Francis is like skipping dinner. Too hungry the next day, if your diet consists of shit starts.

Yes, but also the team needs pitching depth. There will be other injuries, and Francis is one of few pitchers in the org with recent MLB success.

They’re giving him more rope than is ideal, but probably because they’ll need him again later.

They need him to be better is what they need. Because they absolutely do no need him at the moment.

He has an option. They should have used it a while ago.

Francis had a 4.74 ERA and 4.53 FIP in May. Should they have sent him down before that? If they had, which of the pitchers in the system would have delivered better results in the #5 slot in May?

Unfortunately, players don’t tell you what their end of year stats will be at the beginning of the season.

Francis was Cy Young calibre in the second half of 2024. Makes sense he’d get 10-12 starts in 2025 no matter what. He’s shown flashes this season, including yesterday, so he’s going to get more rope.

The larger issue is the complete lack of SP depth in the organization.

Bingo , and if all he can give you is 3 decent innings thats more than anybody in the system

This start was 100% absolutely unnecessary. In fact it created the need for a 2nd start from this slot when they would have only needed 1 if they skipped him. And if they skipped him the other starters would still already have had extra days of rest. And it helped deplete our bullpen in the process. And literally anyone could have given us a similar caliber start. And it's clearly not helping him to keep throwing him out there.

Awful decision for the team, bad decision for him individually too.

Yep, saw your list. Good stuff, but lots of unknowns. Will Scherzer really be back, does anyone else need extra rest, will Berrios get destroyed consecutive starts, etc.
 
Im very much done with Francis, but if you are going to trot him out against the Phillies on the road, surely you quadruple down and start him at home vs the White Sox? Like, unless Max is ready the options down there are still the same.

Im beyond done with Green, and if he's not DFA'd when Sandlin comes back i will be furious.

Swanson im close to being done with, but the guy is coming back from major surgery. I'd imagine he keeps getting low leverage spots until Yimi is ready
