OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Devers relented during spring training (he was hurt and didn't play until the very end anyway), and reluctantly agreed to be the full-time DH. Then over a month ago, 1B Tristan Casas suffered a season ending injury. The GM said publicly that Devers would play 1B, but the manager said publicly Devers would probably not play first base. It came out later that he refused to play 1B, saying that they made him DH and so now he's the DH.

I suspect management wanted him gone, and ownership had buyers' remorse regarding a $313 million contract that lasts until 2033.

Yeah, definitely it was more about personality than anything else for them. He's on pace for his best season since 2019, despite not playing the field, so this was in some ways their chance to sell high on him, get someone to eat the deal while getting positive value back. They probably figured to pull the trigger now, just in case he slumped in the second half even.

In the short term, definitely good news for the Jays. Not that it eliminates Boston by any means, but it definitely hurts them in the crowded WC race.

I love the notion that Boston did this so they can free up money to sign Kyle Tucker.

I have to think any and all FA very much think twice before signing there.

When I saw that I figured there was some context behind it, like the manager had cussed out the first base ump earlier and this was revenge.

Not sure how that can just be a missed call. It's probably the worst missed call at first base in the history of the sport.

I probably cut bait on Green over Swanson first, but, the team probably has the medicals on Swanson and has no real confidence that he can get right in the time needed, and i suspect Green is still on thin ice when Sandlin/Yimi/Max return

If this Francis injury is legit, trotting him out the past 2 starts is even dumber.

Justin Briuhl appears to be fodder, like Schultz.

That's not as bad.

Though the circumstances - that was the only blemish of a perfect game? Yikes.

The commentary in the last ten seconds is hilarious.

Green was actually good last year. Swanson hasn't been good in a long while.

But if we get healthy (Yimi, Sandlin), then I won't be surprised if Green gets axed.

Green was okay to good last year, there were warts indicating he would regress hard, but i get it. I would have thought Swanson got more recovery time, but he actually looks even worse, so no complaints.

As long as Green goes before sending Fisher down i wont complain about the order.
