OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

I mean, the Jays could offer their top 10 prospects and that might not be close to SD's package.
Like we dont know what the arms are, but we dont have a De Vries, not even close, most teams dont.

I cant wait for Jeff Blair to ask why we didnt do this and convert Miller to a SP

Yeah, and like do you want a gamble like this, or like Adrian Houser for a lotto ticket?
Hell no to Houser (he's been good this year for whatever reason, but track record is mediocrity). Go for a higher-end guy like Ryan, Bieber, Cabrera, or at least a mid-range guy like Kelly or Keller. Or throw the dice on Alcantara. Not sure it's worth bothering to go after a #5-6 guy unless we can stash him in the minors. Maybe for dirt cheap but roster spots are limited too.

yah if you're going to add a SP, go for a guy who is a clear upgrade. Bieber, if healthy, certainly is. appreciate the big swing.

Keller was my least fave option just because his cost is tied to his contract. He's just good, not great, i much preferred a rental like Bieber, or Kelly ( orse than biber but less risk)

I was okayish on Houser/Morton as a swing/emergency man, but neither guy moves the needle, this was the play unless you really believe in Alcantara, who will still cost a ton.

any SP you bring in means a 6 man rotation or bumping a guy to the pen if everyone is healthy.

Conventional wisdom says it will be Lauer. I would personally prefer Bassitt, but, we'll see who's healthy and go from there when Shane is ready. I also suspect they are hoping Manoah can be a bulk guy this season. I think zero chance he's actually a SP option

Preller is the same dude who traded James Wood.

The man is an absolute psycho and i adore him. Its why when the Jays are out i have a soft spot for the Pads to win

Padres will apparantly move Cease and Robert Suarez today.

I can see the Jays looking hard at the latter and i think SDP is desperate for MLB ready OF.

Loperfido could be interesting for them

No room for Manoah right now but he's good injury insurance at least, and if he's pitching well he can be used out of the pen in the meantime.

I think I go with a 6-man for now. Everyone's pitched well enough to keep their spot, and we've got some old dudes in there who can probably use the extra day of rest. If someone falters or gets hurt you can easily return to the regular 5-man rotation.

Forgot about Manoah. Is he still playing baseball.

Every pitcher is an injury risk. At least when guys come back from TJ, they have a new UCL, which is the one thing we fear the most about every pitcher. Not everyone is the same after surgery, however.

The Biebs FB velo was declining for a couple of years before he blew out his elbow, but he generally has great secondaries and command. Sometimes command is the last thing to come back though, so that's something to keep an eye on. The reports on his recent outings have been very encouraging. If he's right, he's in our top 3 and starting a playoff game.

Definitely a gamble, and I hate to give up Stephen but we knew we'd be giving up good prospects at this deadline. Would be great if we can resign Bieber to a multi-year deal if he pitches well.

Yeah, Bieber won’t ever get back to his highest highs, but he’s proven he’s a smart enough pitcher to still be damn effective without his peak velo.

…..and just as a fan, I’m pretty pumped to see him pitch as a Jay.
