OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

And Vladdy, sorry buddy, but take notes on the damage Ohtani is doing and maybe hit a key HR when every other good bat has been pulled out of the game by the manager.

Please, take him out for defensive replacements next time if there’s no opportunity to put in a pinch runner for him.

I think Schneider has these wet dreams of doing press conferences after wins where people can ask, hey what made you decide to put in Straw for Barger so early and did you just have a feeling he’d hit three grand slams in the next three at bats or did you expect only two?

I watched it all, but it was a tough watch as I was 100% certain they'd lose in extra innings. So many mistakes. Just a killer of a game. people calling it a "Classic" are morons. That was one ugly fucking game.
Tonight will be interesting. This affects the rest of the series for both teams now.

It reminds me a lot of the Canada Day marathon game from back in 2016. The one where the ump was terrible, Encarnacion was ejected in the 1st or 2nd inning, and just watching all through the extra innings, you just knew the team was going to lose, but you just hold out some hope maybe...

Honestly, I don't hate a lot of the moves individually - if one of those pinch running cases paid off, the game ends way earlier, and you don't have the mess that happened later. But they just all compounded. Knowing Bo only gets 2/3 of a game, being stuck with IKF hitting after Vlad the whole game is a pain. And then combined with all the other micro-management choices, you're left with just a bare-bones lineup. If you don't run for Barger (who's not crazy slow), then you still have Straw left on the bench to run for France instead of Schneider, so suddenly that play a few innings later is just a little closer and maybe he actually scores on it.

But now you have to regroup, and be prepared to regroup without Springer. The way he left immediately, I don't know if I really see any way he can play the rest of the series. I think the MLB rule is you pretty much can only replace him with another position player, so probably that means Loperfido is back. The next question is whether you can play Bo 3 days in a row, even if you can now hide him at DH the next 2. I'm not looking forward to the lineup they post today, if you have to sit both Bo and Springer...

What I worry about is game 6 (And yes I do think there will be one). Yamamoto is waiting. Him not pitching last night sucks. We needed that last night

I was cursing at our pinch runners too...mostly because they didn't look like speedsters...at all

I mean, when you pinch run with someone who's like 25th percentile in speed in Heineman (and who almost completely messed up by not bolting out on a 3-2 count), yeah. Even Schneider is only like 55th percentile for speed, really not someone you want to use as a pinch runner, although given that France is only barely faster than Kirk, it makes some sense I guess. Even Kiner-Falefa, he's not slow, but he's still only really middle of the pack running. Straw is the only elite runner off the bench, but given how much his offense has completely evaporated, we really can't have him bat when we're tied or behind ever.

I don't hate the Heineman switch....it might be that Kirk is better today for it.

yeah there's some upside here - Kirk and Bo would have really been hurt by going 18. hopefully that means they're an advantage today.

what i'm really wondering about is Ohtani - that was a long game for him with lots of baserunning and at one point he was limping out on 2nd base. That is not the ideal warm-up for a pitching start the next day. He could be very vulnerable today.
