OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

One good playoff run in a decade was a job well done.
You suck. World Series berth validates an extension imo. They gave me the best playoff run I’ve witnessed as an adult.

Season from hell so far. Injuries piling up. If they don’t pick it up soon they’ll be too far out. 3.5gb of a wildcard isn’t the end of the world in mid April.

But Hoffman gotta go. He’s not the guy.

You suck.

Maybe

World Series berth validates an extension imo.

Why does one run validate an extension when we have a decade to judge them on?

But Hoffman gotta go. He’s not the guy.

Hoffman is their guy though, and when they had a chance to replace him in the off season, they spent the reliever money on a submariner 7th-8th inning guy instead of replacing the guy who sucked all year and literally blew the world series.

Hoffman as Jay:

81gms, 4.77era (116era-), 4.74fip (112fip-), 3.48xfip (83xfip-), -0.3fwar, -0.6ra9war, -0.4awar/65

He was never a closer before being a jay, and our manager simply decided that he HAS to be the unquestioned full-time closer for us no matter what.

it's pretty crazy tbh.

Relievers this year + last year, in order of leverage index when entering the game:

Garcia: 21.0ip, 1.31li, 3.86era (95-), 3.85fip (91-), 3.86xfip (92-), 0.1fwar, 0.1ra9war, 0.3awar/65

Varland is a no brainer move into the closer role at this point.

He's made some type of adjustment that has thrown hitters off. The quality of contact he's giving up is way down (he has given up 0 barrels so far this year). Hard to say what it is but his fastball-sinker have exploded in value. His arm angle is down a bit but not enough to call it a new arm slot. Hitters are swinging way less, and making shit contact when they do swing. His swinging strike rate is actually down from last year (velo is the same...on his sinker it's actually down) so it's not like it's a tick up in his stuff either. It might be sequencing, or the change to arm angle has his FB-SI tunneling better, dunno.

When I have a bit more give a fuck I'll take a look at some of his data on savant to see if the shape of his pitches have changed at all (his FB ran flat last year). But regardless of the why, he's the obvious pick to take Hoffman's job.
