OT: What are you Watching/Listening/Drinking?

I find that video a bit mean spirited. Its just kinda making fun of kids. Playing live like that isn’t easy - shitty gear, no sound team and you don’t know enough to do it yourself, can’t hear yourself singing or playing cause even if you have a monitor you can’t hear anything.
Even lots of good and successful musicians sucked balls live in their first handful of shows when they were in high school.

I thought that as well, but it's still funny. Whoever made the video definitely should've used more clips of older bands screwing up.

Rock and Roll 101. Find a drummer. Find somewhere to jam. Start looking for other musicians. Start learning songs. Start building a set-list. Practice. Get first gig. Play MSG. Hall of Fame acceptance speech.

Most young bands fall down by playing live to soon, they haven't practiced enough. Confidence is high, because they've just started getting through songs without a mistake, but they are still many practices from being ready.

That said, performing is a learning curve that you can only get better at by doing it.

Toughest part early on is that once a song starts - you are locked in and cannot stop. Break a string.. keep playing. Forget a lyric.. keep playing. Out of tune.. keep playing (but turn yourself down).

I don’t think doing it too soon is a problem. So you fall on your face in the high school gym. IMO you need that to get comfortable.

also, as a kid you can’t really pick and choose - you can only play with who you know (also, bassists and drummers with parents willing to tolerate band practice are both in short supply).

Too soon is only a problem if it turns people off from performing.. but for most (even if it's a bad show) the adrenaline you get from performing well and positive audience feedback is something you cannot replicate. Neither is the feeling you get when a song comes together perfectly - good room, good mix, good mood - it's an awesome feeling.

you guys have had conversations about pot here... talking about different strains for this effect and that effect.. I think i remember one bit about something to do with helping with sleep... is there a strain that helps support sleep?

Tried the Impossible Whopper a couple days ago. Was better than expected. Trying to reduce red meat consumption and it'll do in a pinch for an occasional indulgence.

Indica for sure. I seem to recall Habsy raving about a good strain for sleep, hopefully he sees your post.

Take enough of anything and you'll sleep.
