OT: World Politics

They are almost there now. Zero presence in Yurp. Asian and Yurp-peeing cars are everywhere in the global south.

I hadn't been to guadalajara since before covid until recently and something that stood out to me this time around was how few american cars there were compared to previously. Tons of japanese & sk stuff (more Nissan & Mazda than Toyota and Honda, but lots of all of them). Quite a lot of VW's, some bmw's, peugots. Saw my first BYD's and Geely's as well (popular with didi/uber drivers). It used to feel like 40-50% american stuff down there, but I'd be surprised if it was 5% now.

Anywhere that oversized pickup trucks aren't a thing, you're just not going to see a lot of American vehicles anymore. It kind of feels like that's all that they actually sell in high volume anymore.

Actually, there are still some Fords in Yurp, but it’s very marginal. FIAT everywhere in eye-tie, which is hilarious. VW is huge and Renault too. Audis and Bimmers of course. Peugeot is more upscale - we had that in Portugal. Nice car.

I can't remember seeing a single ford aside from a couple F-150's in GDL. Even for pickups it was mostly Tundras for full size, and Hilux's as actual work trucks. I saw a bag of little Chevy Aveo's though, they're still popular enough. We're probably the only other market outside of the US that they're junk is popular in still and that's likely a thing of the past now as well.
