OT: World Politics

keep in mind that earlier in the Syrian civil war, it was the presence and involvement of the Russians and Hezbollah that really turned the tide in Assad's favour.

Russia is busy in Ukraine, and Hezbo has been dealt a series of pretty severe blows to its capacity from Israel. I dunno what the state of the rebel movement is these days in terms of manpower and supplies, but Assad may have a tougher time if they have their shit together...

This is what happens when only one side is truly motivated to fight and die. Assad is in deep shit primarily because the soldiers he employs, while they are following orders for now, are not truly committed to any passionate cause like the rebels are.

The same is true for the Russians in Ukraine. None of them really want to be there and they are fighting an enemy that is willing to fight to the literal death. The same was true for the US in Vietnam.

Whichever side is willing to go all the way is going to win eventually.

Dunno how much this is Turkey sponsoring a militia to go after the Kurds in Syria. That’s what is being suggested. Of course, the militia will have its own revanchist priorities.
