Yeah, if our choices are between two world economic powers, and both are corrosive to democratic freedom...but one is smart, pragmatic and predictable, while the other has a child's understanding of everything and also their temperment, I'll align with the one we can at least plan next year's budget around.
With all of that said, the obvious way forward is deep integration with other democratic nations though, and then working through that bloc to try to pull the global south in our direction. Latin America specifically is more of a natural ally to a European "world order" than an American one imo. The two largest and most powerful economies in latin america have been interfered with by the US for decades and don't have much love for American leadership, both are growing democracies who have diverse economies that would have strong synergy with the a democratic bloc of EU/UK/Canada/AU.
