Now, in fairness....Argentina has been a basketcase for decades and significant change was necessary but Milei 1000% undersold the pain he was asking the Argentinian public to put up with and significantly oversold the effectiveness of his plan.

recent polling still has his party ahead, but the money is going to get more and more nervous the worse they do. Peso will crater further, bond rates will shit out even more, making his agenda even harder to achieve without everyone ending up impoverished, into a self reinforcing downward cycle until he's unceremoniously thrown the fuck out, or tries to take over the place.

It's. . .complicated.

South Korean president says his country can’t afford Trump’s demands

Germany plans for 1,000 wounded troops per day in case of conflict with Russia

There was some progress because things could only go up, frankly. But now it’s gonna be ugly.

Yeah, if you're willing to put a bunch of people into poverty and reduce public services it's not hard to slow inflation and hack 40% off of government spend. The trick is how do you get the economy growing again after ripping it's guts out. There's way too much hand waiving and "magic of the free market" in the Austrian school's explanation of that imo, and also too much removal of levers to pull. Once you've gotten rid of your central bank and done all of the things to "stabilize" your currency and inflation...if that didn't work, well...what now? Cut another 40% from government spend and take out more loans to buy USD?

If they let the peso float inflation will come roaring back.

This evening, Maia Sandu, the pro-EU president of Moldova, delivered an unprecedented address to the nation following today’s large-scale arrests of pro-Russian agents across the country:"In all solemnity, I have to inform you that the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and future of our country are in grave and immediate danger. The Kremlin has spent hundreds of millions in an attempt to destabilize and spread violence and fear across the Moldova. I am addressing all loyal citizens: do not permit the surrender of our country. [...]Russia is not acting alone, they have many accomplices here in Moldova, traitors to their homeland that will sell it for a profit, as they have done before. These men don't have a country, they don't believe in Europe or in Russia, they believe in nothing but money. [...]"The Kremlin believes that we are all for sale, that we are too small and few to resist, that we're not even a country. But Moldova is a country and is our home and we will defend it. [...]"

Time to start hanging traitors. If the US had done this to Confederate traitors like Robert E Lee and Jefferson Davis at the end of the Civil War instead of erecting statues in their honor, the US might not be so fucked up today.
