OT: WWE/MMA/Boxing Thread

It was me, he still has a meh resume, beating up Tony at this stage in his career isn't impressive (as we saw again tonight). One of the deepest divisions in the sport and Chandler is the only real fighter he's beat in it. Good counter hook though after getting dominated in the 1st round. It's a wild sport.

I'm not sold on Oliveira either, but he's the champ, so good on him.

And no, his resumé isn't stellar. His best win is against a past-it Tony Ferguson, then it's debatable if his second best win is Chandler or Kevin Lee.

Prior to his last three fights, he lost every single one of his fights - without a single exception - to top tier fighters. Oliveira's a really good kill or be killed fighter, but I want to see him keep it up against top competition.

Is that really a debate?

Kevin Lee hype train got derailed years ago mang. He is maybe, maybe at gatekeeper level. Chandler is a legitimately title contension level fighter imo.

If the 1st round had been relatively even and then he caught the flash knockdown and finish, I'd be a bit more convinced. But to lose the 1st pretty convincely while almost getting finished, and then catch the flash finish early in the 2nd....well, good on him for having the ability to finish a fight but it wasn't a convincing performance.

I think it is because it becomes a question of eye test vs resumé. Chandler's resumé is clearly lacking.

Chandler's only UFC win came against Dan Hooker, who is a hell of a fighter himself, someone who has a very spotty resumé as well. Hooker's best win was a decision over Felder than I thought Felder clearly won.

Chandler also lost in Bellator against the 145 champ. Chandler's not a bum by any means, I just don't think he's really one of the top lightweights in the world either. His best win was almost a decade ago against Eddie Alvarez, one of the greatest fights that nobody saw because it got overshadowed by Shogun-Hendo on the same night.

When it comes to Lee Vs Chandler, I think Lee has two wins (Chiesa, Gillespie) that are better than anything Chandler has had since the Alvarez fight.

Maybe part of me still believes in Kevin Lee, maybe not as a future champion anymore, but I think he just needs to get his shit together and not spend half a fortune on a motherfucking scalp tattoo.

145 bores me. It's Holloway-Volkanovski-Pitbull and everyone else.

The best divisions are 135 & 155. In 155, I can see pretty much anyone in the top-10 beating each other and 135 has such a depth of talent, it's incredible.

was a typo, meant 135

Wins against prime Alvarez and prime Benson Henderson (UFC #1 LW not long before Chandler beat him the first time) are better than anything Oliveira had on his resume (until last night) imo. Throw in the Hooker win (moreso the way he did it) and it's a good resume with 3 better victories than anything that was on Oliveira's resume until last night. There's a lot of cans on his resume (Bellator is gonna Bellator) but I have a hard time seeing guys like Girtz, Patricky Pitbull, etc as being less challenging that the corpses of Guida, Jim Miller, or even Tony (when was the last time Tony looked like a top 10 UFC LW? Pettis in 2018?).

Yeah, I think you're way too high on Kevin Lee. Gillespie is a can whose best win is against who? Medeiros? With his best ever win coming against Chiesa, a fringey top 10/gatekeeper type fighter. Beat twice by Ianquinta (another gatekeeper level guy), beat by the undersized corpse of RDA, tainted win against the corpse of Barboza (we hadn't gotten to the part of him habitually missing weight). He's 3-4 as a main card fighter, 4-4 if you count his prelim headliner.

That motherfucker had power of attorney too.

Fucking hell, man. I know Diego's a gullible motherfucker that's been scammed a bunch, but come on man...
