Out of Town Scoreboard

Ottawa is so bad.

Their defensive coverage is pretty atrocious. Guys are covering the wrong guy, have their backs turned to open men and so on.
That wouldn't be so bad if Anderson was Hasekian like last year, but he's below average (well, awful SP% wise for sure) and even their other goalie is average too. I bet they bring it vs. Detroit though, only to fall back for the next games.

I'm sure Corksens understands it but maybe he's just not really thinking it through. Regression to the mean will involve really bad periods that are far worse than the career average in order to make up for the really good periods.

If Price keeps playing like this, it's going to be difficult to keep him off the Olympic team. Right now, who would you pick above him as starter? Sure as hell ain't Fleury. Lou has been pretty pedestrian, Ward has been thoroughly mediocre.

Mike Smith? Reimer? Bernier?

I'm a firm believer that you go with the hot hand, so I'd like to see Price and Josh Harding both on the team if I was picking it today.

It's definitely Price's job to lose at this point. Unless he really shits the bed between now and then he's the starter. It's the other 2 spots that are up for grabs.

1. Price
2. Ward
3. Luongo

I think Luongo will be there because he's the guy with "experience" and has a gold medal. Unless Ward really plays great in the coming weeks I don't see him being there. I think Harding and Fleury have the edge on him right now. Maybe even one of Bernier or Reimer.

I'm not so certain. Team Canada tends to familiarize themselves and become beholden to certain players and Ward strikes me as one of those select players who has ingratiated himself with Hockey Canada's management for whatever reason.

He's been a mainstay on squads from the World Juniors all the way up to multiple World Championship appearances. Just a hunch on my part with no real other reasoning behind it. The Stanley Cup pedigree likely contributes to his perceived value too as does the Conn Smythe win for obvious reasons.
