Pacioretty

I don’t understand how the Max situation was blown? Per reports MB had a high asking price last deadline & teams balked (high asking price was the right thing to do), apparently had a deal in place with Kings at draft which Max refused to sign extension.

Max should net a 3-component deal (1st + grade B prospect + mid-level prospect / pick) at next trade deadline.

Pretty easy to predict what people would have to say if MB settled for a Skinner type return. Now if that ends up being the return, then yes...MB will have blown it.

I do not think he has been shopped as much as the media has been implying. I would not be shocked if MB would prefer to keep him long term.

I don’t see this offseason as “pretty good”.

He’s completely blown the Pacioretty situation.

Traded a 30 goal scorer for a 9 goal scorer.

Couldn’t even get an audience with the highest profile FA to come along in decades.

Still hasn’t really addressed the C and LD issue.

Picked up a 3rd liner in Armia touting it as some coup.

Sorry but I don’t see this past summer as productive. The only silver lining is the draft and the jury is still out on that one.
Viewing this through the rebuilding lens, the only place he's messed up the the Pacioretty situation, only because we need to trade Max and we need a good return.

We didn't need John Tavares, or Statsny(and that one must sting, being blown off by stastny)

We don't need to fix the C and LD issues, the shittier the better.

Trading skill for hustle works really well in terms of rebuilding. Less goals, but the new guy looks like he's working really hard.

Armia paves the way for Kotkaniemi, if we are looking at the long game.

For tank/rebuild nation, the only poor parts about this offseason have been the bungled max trade and resigning Plekanec.

I don't mind the off-season. I like the coaching changes, he kept his picks, no bad contracts, no quick fixes, picked up a few more young guys to compete. I'm not really sure what else he should have done with Max. The market is cold, I'm glad he's holding on to him for now.

Alex for Max is a question mark. I'm not a huge fan of the trade but I don't hate it either. At least we're getting something in return for Alex who would have certainly Bolt out in 2 years. I also think Max will do well here.

He really fcked up the 27 trade, you forgot that one? It's funny how when MB does nothing we give him praise, because we know when he does do something, he generally screws it up.

This team would actually be better if he had not made any trades.

Wouldn't be winning cups, but would be a solid bet for the postseason.

I'm pretty sure the whole second paragraph of my post is about that.

You're right, but it was an awful trade, not an indifferent one. This is a team that can't score goals, and is not competing for MIN 2-3 years.

Situation is a colossal mistake on Nero’s part. You don’t drag this mess to this scenario. Unsigned , media berated , and then you tell the league I dont want this POS , please take him off my hands at 110% value .

This should of been settled in the summer of 2017 . That gives teams 2 years of service and us a fair return .

Pacioretty for William Karlsson -one for one? Anyone game for that?

We take some risk that WK over achieved and they take on contract risk...

Makes no sense for Vegas . If WK has another solid year they will keep and pay him . Why trade a 25 year old for a 30 year old when one is a UFA next year

It’s blowm if the return has been dropping since last March.
MB knew he had to deal max and many of us here realized that trading him at the last deadline made the most sense because a team could get max for 2 playoff runs.

The rumors are that the return was fair but MB was greedy. I believe that to be the case so for me that means MB blew it.

If he reverts back to a 10 goal scorer?

They're already covered in that case with his 1 year contract. There is a greater chance of regression on Max going forward given his age.

I can't see any positive to that trade from Vegas point of view.
