Pittsburgh Penguins 2025 NHL Draft

Coming into this week, the Pens had their own first round pick (#11), a second-round pick, and three third-round picks among others. Then earlier this week, they had the #12 picked conferred to them, a condition of a deal with Vancouver. The Rangers were to give that pick to the Pens (or one next year) in the deal they made with Vancouver that got them J. T. Miller. The Rangers initially conferred the pick to Vancouver, who swapped it to Pittsburgh when the Pens sent Marcus Petterssen and Drew Conner to Vancouver at the trade deadline.

Then today, they swapped #12 to Philly for the 22nd and 31st picks from Philly. They picked at #11 and #22, then swapped the 31st pick and their own 2nd round pick (#59) to move up to #24 (from the L.A. Kings). Confused? I sure was.

The picks?
#11 - Benjamin Kindel, C, Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
#22 - Bill Zonnan, F, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies (QMJHL)
#24 - Will Horcoff, F, Michigan Wolverines (Big Ten). His father Shawn played 16 seasons in the NHL, mostly for Edmonton.

Horcoff and Zonnan are "rising prospects" and even Kindel was seen as a low 20s pick by many before the past few days saw him inching up the boards. Prospects? Sure hope so. The lack of size on Kindel is concerning but he's supposedly "super skilled" and one of "the best playmakers" available.

I didn't like any of what they did in the first round. I'm okay with the players they got I suppose.. but they all could have been picked 10 spots later.

Thanks GEEMAN. Glad to hear from someone far more plugged in than I am. I was reading some similar things about the three top picks. Certainly discouraging.
This year is going to be brutal.
Nothing wrong with the players but I can see all of them being available in the second round

Zonnon and Horcoff dont look like top 6 for me and Kindell better hit or its a mess of a draft
