It’s been 84 years…

The Canes come in off a 12 day layoff. They’ve practiced in between series to “keep the knife sharpened”. Jarvis sad the intensity ramped up this week. They’re skating this morning but it should be business as usual.

The Habs come in off 2 - 7 game series, with Alex Newhook scoring the OT game winner in both. Many of the players have been here before too; Suzuki, Caufield, Anderson, Danault, Evans were all on the 2020-21 team that lost to Tampa in the Final. Alex Newhook won a Cup with the Avs. So while they’re young, they’re experienced. The top line of Suzuki, Caufield and Slafkovsky has been mostly held in check at 5 on 5, combining for just 3 goals. Newhook has 7 goals, all at even strength.

TNT has the entire series and the studio crew will be on site at each arena. Mike and Tripp have the radio call. John Forslund has the national radio call on SportsUSALive.

If the weather holds off, we'll be tailgating before the game. Let's hope the Canes avoid an "upset" like what happened to the Avs last night. We all know this Montreal team is a legitimate contender, so a win for them is an upset only in the eyes the prognosticators. If we can shake off the rust and get to our game, we should win, as we're a deeper and more balanced team - so, let's do this!

Well, that’ll go well. At least we dodged Francis Charron, because his sorry ass was inexplicably calling Game 1 in Denver last night. That guy screwed up every game he called in the 2nd round and somehow gets to caddy for McCauley in the Conference Finals. Only in the NHL

For Game 1 in the East, much will depend on which of those two are the lead whistle. Rank, as we’ve all seen firsthand, is prone to losing his cool and just calling everything, while Hebert is more settled, if enigmatic. Hebert is on the list of guys who signed the Anti-Svech pledge though. Either way, warm up the PK

OK, so you all know I have no time for the rest vs rust thing. Tired legs, though … that’s a big deal. Montreal may be fresh from the fight, but St Louis chose to shorten his bench in Game 7 on Monday. 4 guys played less than 10 minutes in that game, and 2 played less than 5. Heck Xhekaj played five freaking shifts … in a game that went to OT. So, some of those legs are barking at this point. Carolina’s pretty good at coming out hot, even after a long break so that should work to their advantage. They’re also pretty good at absolutely dominating a first period and only managing to produce 1 goal … so … yeah. Patience is a virtue, but sometimes it’s also a problem.

Like I said before, I think the matchup game will be pretty vanilla in this one and I don’t expect a lot of deviations from the standard game plan from either bench, at least not early. I think they’ll roll ‘em out, play their systems and see what needs to be adjusted. It’s a matchup much more conducive to watch-able hockey, so that’s nice. There’s big pressure on Carolina to get their nose in front in an ECF for a change, so … game on. Let’s go.

If we get Playoff Freddie we should be fine. But if we get Regular Season Freddie it’s gonna be a rough ride.

Yep.

We had Rank (#7) for Philly game 3. He also worked Habs/Slugs game 3

We had Hebert (#15) for Ottawa game 2. He had Montreal 3 times including games 2 and 7 against the Slugs

Scott Cherrey (#50) and Jesse Marquis (#86) are on the lines.

Backup officials: Gord Dwyer and Bevan Mills

Series Supervisor: Rob Schick

I am finding myself quite annoyed with a contingent of the talking heads and prognosticators. To hear these jackasses, you’d think Carolina is not in the playoffs due being a well coached deep team, ability to roll 4 lines, solid and elite d-pairings, style of play, puck pressure and ability to play both sides of the puck. The big reason we’re here— because we didn’t have to play teams like Florida and Toronto and we got easy outs because we faced Ottawa and Philly.

Interestingly, I heard Steve Levy on NHL radio and he was actually giving the Canes props and did not fit in the above group— consider me surprised!

The same rocket scientists who predicted Ottawa to steam roll the Canes no less.

ESPN’s entire broadcast panel picked Vegas over Colorado (for the series win, not the game) last night. Just sayin’ … you might not be the only one who’s annoyed. Then again, I’m still waiting for anything those boobs say to count as a goal.

It's funny how we get a little sensitive about our own teams and the coverage they get. Seems to me everywhere I look/listen Montreal has no chance because Carolina is so amazing.

I agree. I hear and read many plaudits for the Canes. It seems like some people only acknowledge the negatives.
