Round 1: Leafs @ Bruins

Andy is .911 since Jan 1. 30th in NHL for goalies with 10 or more starts.
His 3.05 gaa is 42nd in the league over the same period.(33.1 sa/gm)

For comparison Rask is 12th 2.35 and 28th .913 with same parameters. (25.9 sa/gm)

yup.

leafs finished top-5 in regulation wins and goal differential even with mediocre goaltending.

Out of the door Boston will go after Mitch, that is how they roll and league won’t do shit about it
If that won’t help they will go after AM
So by end of the series we might lose 2 players + depending on Naz red mist situation
They did try it with Tampa but got destroyed by PP and bone crushing response

Who did we lose against them last series? Why does everyone think Boston is big and physical? Hits is a goofy stat I know, but fwiw, Boston was 15th in the league in hits (Toronto was 29th)...Montreal was 3rd ffs and I don't remember anyone concerned about injuries heading into any game against the Habs.

Boston was bottom 5 in blocked shots, so that's not exactly a strength of theirs. There one stand out "gritty" skill is in takeaways. They're 6th overall in takeaways, but the soft Leafs were 7th (and a better shot blocking team).

Too many people are caught up in Boston's reputation rather than Boston's reality. Very good team but they're neither big nor physical. They didn't beat us up in our series last year, they took better care of the puck and got stops when they needed them. Not a whole lot has changed with them (though we've added Tavares and Muzzin since) this season. It's still the same team that we had a 3rd period lead against in game 7.

Besides Andersen I think Matthews and Nylander are the key to the series. If all 4 of our big guys are playing well I think we win.

Andy can't be shambolic. Just can't. He has to be at minimum average. He's the only guy that absolutely has to show up. We have depth everywhere else in the lineup that is capable of picking up an under performing star. Except in net. Andy can't suck again.

That can be said for every team. Nobody is winning a series where their goalie sucks unless the other goalie sucks worse.

So it’s a given Andersen needs to be in top form. But even if he is, we’re going nowhere if the ghost of Matty tries to haunt our way to victory again. He needs to be the best player in this series. Or he needs to just be good enough if Tavares plans to score at will. Freddy can do whatever he wants in there, but we need our scorers to come alive.

i will take the under...leafs in 3

There's no way I take that bet without odds.

3-1 though and I'll take the under-under. 1.5 games and this series is over. Leafs sweep, Boston quits in the 2nd period of game 2.

you gotta appreciate sensi's dedication. his trolling has always been poor, but he rarely lacks for effort

yeah, but we might be the only team whose goalie has sucked two first rounds in a row now. We have a bit more reason than almost anyone else to be concerned about our goaltending.

Except he was a ghost last series and it took Andy shitting the bed int he 3rd period of game 7 to lose the series. Matthews is an important player for us, but again, we have depth at centre that can overcome a bad series from Matthews. If Tavares puts up 4-5 goals in the series and Naz finds his form, we don't necessarily need Matthews. There's a safety net there. There's no safety net for Freddy.

He needs to be the best player in this series. Or he needs to just be good enough if Tavares plans to score at will. Freddy can do whatever he wants in there, but we need our scorers to come alive.

Our scorers have been alive the entire 2nd half and yet we've struggled. It doesn't matter what your shooters do if you're getting .890 goaltending.

It drives me nuts how willing the media is to talk about the Leafs shortcomings, but the not a word about the Bruins numerous issues.

This series is two very good teams playing each other. Like last year, it's a coin flip.

Babcock wont use kadri against the Bergeron line.
The bruins would be salavatating all over that.
With nylander on kadris line, it would be christmas in April for the bruins.
Nylander is a joke.
Use him on the powerplay, use him against third and forth line opps.
Defensively, the guy is a pylon.
But I am sure that someone will come up with a number to debate that lolol.

Agreed.
Both teams are above most other teams in terms of talent.
But the leafs defence is a concern
The numbers can say all they want, but when teams laugh and joke about the leafs not wanting to play defence or make the sacrifice it takes to be successful in that area, then I think it is safe to say that the leafs downfall will be their defensive play.
