Round 1: Leafs @ Bruins

If possible, Marchand and Bergeron are even better this year. No one knows on this one, except perhaps some high level betters.

I do agree that winning 1 in Boston would greatly improve our chances of taking the series.

Chances of us coming back down 0-2 would be quite low. [/obvious post]

If the leafs win the first game, I would hazard a prognostication that they could very easily come home up 2-0.
Boston will have as much pressure on them as the leafs and losing the first game will send the fanbase and others into a tizzy.
It would be worth the money I would lose to see that.
I hate the bruins and their theft of Bobby orr from under the leafs noses roflmao.

-career average Freddy. not even amazing Freddy
-normal production from Matthews and Nylander. not even going nuts production.
-The Mitch & JT Show continues its highly successful network TV run
-we don't have a key centre suspended

I think all those things have a reasonable chance of happening. None of them did last time, and we still led going into the 3rd period of game 7.

I like this breakdown. This is what I have been saying. What are the statistical chances Matthews gets 2 in 7 games, Freddie under .900 % for the series, and a major piece gets suspended 3 games? Plus Tavares and Muzzin would have to be non issues for the Leafs to bust. 3rd period of game 7 last year with all of that against them. Now it's supposed to be much easier for Boston? Not buying it.

Actually kadri could be the real wildcard here.
If he becomes the kadri we have come to know, he could drive the opps out of their minds.
But giving all this love to the leafs is window dressing for one of the biggest problems I mentioned earlier.
Unless the damn refs are willing to call the crap that boston disperses, then it will be all for naught.
Chara gets away with holding and crosschecks that the leafs have been called for all season.
Thier whole defence are masters at obstruction and holding

CALL THE DAMN HOLDING and interference.

So we should completely ignore the performance of both of these teams during this past regular season?

Boston received .899 goaltending, lost Bergeron for a game, and got almost 0 production from their secondary scoring last year. How likely is that to happen again?

We can play this game for both sides.

I hope the Leafs play hard, I think most of them would like to see Sheldon Keefe at the helm.

Bruce Cassidy seems like a really cool, likeable guy, but firm. Not an egomaniac.

I think in terms of coaching, have to tick off that checkbox to Boston.

Will that 1st line repeat the stats from last year? And Rask did get higher numbers than Freddie.
On the whole, Boston's core players stepped up more.

Boston received .899 goaltending,

Given how bad Rask has been lately...fairly likely.

lost Bergeron for a game,

Bergeron is hardly an iron man. Played 64 last season, 65 this season. Entirely possible

and got almost 0 production from their secondary scoring last year.

Krejci had 8 points in 7 games, and Debrusk had 7 in 7 including 5 goals. So this is just some sort of weird fiction you're inventing.

If Rask is likely to play that poorly so is Anderson. And I meant more the 3rd/4th lines, not the Krejci line.

Actual production, team point total, place in the standings, head-to-head matchup.

Boston record with the goalie that will play: 27-13-5 (107pt pace)
Toronto record with the goalie that will play: 36-16-7 (109 pt pace)

That kind of point total?

What would make people pick the Leafs to win?

Boston has been the better team all year and have home ice. They are definitely the favorites. Not sure what people were expecting. Could we win? Sure, and it wouldn't be a huge shocker. But going into the series they are definitely the favorites, and media members typically don't take many chances with their predictions.

If anything this helps us. We may actually be a bigger underdog this year compared to last.

this is verifiably not true.

Why are 3 on 3 and shootouts applicable to playoffs hockey?

The Bruins won 11 of their games in 3 on 3 or shootouts. The Leafs won 6 of theirs. So in regular hockey, the type of stuff they play in the playoffs:

Leafs had 40 wins, Boston 38.

31 of Boston's points came out of 3 on 3 or OT this season, to 20 for the Leafs.

They went to a lot of pond hockey and skills competitions this year. We put more teams away during the course of regular time.
