When's the last time we had a real goal scorer like CC in our system? Laine isn't the guy you blow your load on. He's super soft and goes on streaks. I remember last year or something he had his ice time dropped for a couple of weeks because he was invisible. You'll have CC who will probably put up 75% of the production, with a better all around game, and on an ELC for 3 years and will be much more affordable even after. You are seriously better over paying Hall 1m a year, makes no sense to trade for Laine as he'll cost a ton.

Good god man stop being such a kvetch! Every goal scorer is streaky, as Habsy pointed out Habs haven’t had a natural scorer with size in 30-years since Richer pulled of his 50G season. Laine is about to turn 23 is 6’5 has a rocket shot w quick release in tight, who is guaranteed for 30G minimum....if you don’t blow the wad on that not sure what to blow it on!
Habs can only HOPE CC can turn into a regular 30G guy

Max was a scorer with size. He needed more with him.
Yes Laine is intriguing because if he moves his game up a couple of notches he could become a powerful force for many years, lead the offence for a generation. He wasn't projected that much behind Matthews in the draft and is still very young. Imagine if he fell in love with Montreal,developed a passion for playing here,etc.
Then again, we could have Thomas Vanek on our hands. Good player, could have been better longer perhaps. Yech...I still remember his turn here. Brought nothing.

Then a team would be on the hook for full salary? Are we able to retain salary in a trade? I think a team would want us to cover like 2-3m and maybe we can get something back.

I really hope Bergevin has no interest in Krug. The only way to consider a small guy like that is to move Mete and Ouellet. Weber, Chiarot, Petry and Kulak are big. Romanov is average but plays big. Definitely don't want to get small on D.
