Summer 2025 Transfer Thread

Matt Turner’s European adventure appears to be over. The New England Revolution signed him on loan with an option to buy from Lyon. If he’s going to be the starter in the World Cup, he needs playing time.

Good. He was too old to make the leap to Europe in the way he did. The lure of the big clubs messed up yet another player. Shocker. Now he can work of rediscovering his confidence in MLS. There's still a fine keeper lurking in there.

Son Heung-min leaving Spurs, reportedly for LAFC. He’s also drawn interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia but wants to move to LA.
For a reported $26M, breaking the MLS transfer record. He was in the crowd at the Leagues Cup match last night.

And Liverpool have sold another of their youth players, Tyler Morton, to Lyon. Talented young mid who found himself crowded out by the increasingly congested Liverpool midfield. Best wishes to him: always liked Tyler; played pretty well in the DM position when he was utilized.

Looks like Darwin Nunez is headed to Saudi Arabia instead of Italy. Al Hilal is one of the clubs PIF own. Would be ironic if that helped spur Alexander Isak's move from Newcastle to Liverpool.

The Dubravka deal being necessitated by the sale of James Trafford back to Manchester City.

This headline, of course, shows how out-of-touch ESPN are. Like Trafford is going to displace Ederson any time soon.

Oh, one more signing: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall leaves Stamford Bridge to sign on at "new Goodison" (or whatever they're going to call the new place).
Edit - looked it up: Hill Dickinson Stadium, named for a local Liverpool law firm. Wonderful.

That is so much money for the mls. I'm curious since LA has gotten so much money from being team Asia in another sport if they think that will translate to soccer as well. If that's their calculation, I think it's probably a mistake.

LA is likely just doing the traditional European star retirement home gig with Sonny, but yeah ... it's a lot of dosh considering how much he slipped last season. Maybe they figure that step he's lost will translate better in MLS than it did in the Prem. I mean, it will but how much? This ain't 2005 or whatever, when Beckham tore up MLS despite being a basically stationary object. The overall depth, pace and quality of play are worlds better now. And Son is a smash and grab attacker, not a distributor. Every decent MLS team has a guy like him now, only younger and quicker ... sometimes more than one. Seems like an awfully big gamble but that franchise has gone stale since that Cup winning team in 2022.

Hey ... I thought of you today when I saw that Digne is signing a contract extension ... lol.

I've been forced to keep my thoughts to myself for the most part solely due to literally nobody in my life being able to understand it in any way, but I am less than happy to say the very least. Shitty, overpaid, should be backup left backs are not where a team right on the edge of the PSR limit should be allotting their money. When it comes to sports decisions, I feel a good metric is "What would Bill Belichick do?" Now, obviously I would not apply this metric to literally ANYTHING else in life, but for sports it works great. There is zero chance Bill would not only keep, but extend Digne.

Sort of an embarrassing day when it comes to Americans in general with Son's unveiling. For some reason, the mayor was among those present and made a reference to him helping the US win next year's World Cup. 🤦
Then, one of the local sports reporters who interviewed him later marveled at his command of the English language. 😬

My second hand cringe is palpable from just reading those descriptions let alone actually seeing them happen. Yikes!

Of course, Isak may not be headed anywhere if they can't get a striker in. And it appears Benjamin Sesko is choosing United over Newcastle.

Sesko to Man U is complete for a €76.5 million fee with €8.5 million in add-ons. As part of the deal, Man U will play a future friendly at Red Bull Arena. RB Leipzig had also accepted Newcastle‘s offer but Sesko preferred Man U.
