Summer 2025 Transfer Thread

Sort of an embarrassing day when it comes to Americans in general with Son's unveiling. For some reason, the mayor was among those present and made a reference to him helping the US win next year's World Cup. 🤦
Then, one of the local sports reporters who interviewed him later marveled at his command of the English language. 😬
Honestly, that's on the team. No way a media savvy team like Miami, LA Galaxy or the Sounders would have let the presser turn into that kind of a mess.

Didn't see this until this came to in my Google News feed: Timothy Weah is headed back to Ligue 1. He's going to Marseilles.

Like most Americans on the move right now, he really just needs to play. Should be a good landing spot for him.

IMO Weah has played consistently well when healthy over the last 3-4 seasons. What has varied is his manager's faith in him and the roles he's been asked to fill.
I kind of lost track of him the last few years, because he always seemed to pick up a knock. Not like Tyler Adams, but always around the international breaks. But he played in 43 matches across all competitions for Juve last season and 35 the year before.

If Newcastle land Yoane Wissa from the Bees, Samu from Porto and Lucas Paqueta from West Ham, their business will end up looking really solid after having added Elanga. Even if Isak decides to leave. Nicolas Jackson would be icing on the cake.

Weah's timing on those injuries has been terrible, from a USMNT perspective. Worse was the way he got shuttled back and forth between playing wingback and playing as a wide midfielder. He's good at both, but it's not as easy to shift gears as fans generally think. He also spent time last year as a utility sub and that's never good for the form. Through it all, the guy has been one of the more consistent players for the US when he's been available. For a team really looking for guys to show up with the same compete level all the time, Weah is a veteran you can count on to bust his ass every time he plays.

Other reported transfers done/close
  1. Liam Delap from Ipswich to Chelsea for £30M (Liam Delap story)
  2. Matheus Cunha is leaving Wolves for ManU (Matheus Cunha to ManU)
  3. Arsenal in advanced talks for Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig (Arsenal pursuing Sesko)
  4. Liverpool also in advanced talks to bring over another Leverkusen player, Florian Wirtz. The Kerkez deal is supposedly imminent. (Liverpool bid for Florian Wirtz)
Arsenal also said to be talking to bring in Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting, while our Milos Kerkez deal is not yet done but is reportedly close. If we bring in Wirtz and Kerkez on top of Frimprong, I'm a happy man. If the rumours (which seem far more in the rumour stage than anything else "crystallizing") that they're hot after Hugo Ekitiké from Eintracht are true, I'll be beside myself. But he's been linked with a number of clubs recently, including Arsenal and Chelsea.
Focusing on the "beside myself" part: I really am. But if today proved anything (apart from how exciting a prospect Ekitike is), it's that way need someone to back up Ryan Gravenberch when he's not available. When Crystal Palace had possession/won possession today, they got through our midfield without much difficulty on multiple occasions. Gravy would've halted more than a few of those possessions.

Jack Grealish is headed to Everton on loan from Man City. Everton will assume a big share of his £300k per week wage bill. The loan includes an option to buy for about £50 million, half of what City paid Villa in 2019. He only made 16 starts in all competitions last year, only 8 in the Premier League. He wasn’t included in the Club World Cup roster.

Geez ... is that a release clause or something? Palace paid nearly 20 million for the guy, so you'd think they'd want more return on investment than that. Especially since they're giving up their best CB and a chunk of those funds will be going back to Chelsea.

I feel like they turned down offers for twice that much, or am I crazy? Unreal
Two days ago, as these rumours got more pronounced, one of my friends mentioned that Palace turned down an offer of £60M for him in January! So £35M is far less. Not sure what happened in the interim, though I understand the player is eager for the move
Not sure why as I don't see him as first choice over Konate.

I didn't realize he was going into the last season of his contract. I guess considering the season that Palace had, it's probably worth the 30 mil to them. A little surprised that it's not a bit more, but the threat of getting nothing for him is a bit worse.

He's still a teenager, right? So they're bringing in Guehi to support the current CB group and challenge for a starting role and Leoni for senior squad depth, one presumes. Big step up from Joe Gomez, but I don't see either of them pushing Konate out anytime soon. Dan Dyke needs some rotation though. He's in his mid 30s and nobody could have any more miles on their tires than him.
