Tech Thread

The hubris required to not understand that what they're doing only ends one way, jeeebus. Imagine being a bag of meat that can die from a relatively light bump on the head, and thinking that you have some sort of unlimited power over other people because your capitalism game score has a bunch of 0's in it.

It’s either hubris, stupidity, or they’re just hoping and praying that the system holds exactly long enough for them to die a natural death of old age after decades of enjoying their unlimited wealth and power.

It’s funny—these tech bros want to be essentially modern feudal lords, with their workers reduced to little more than serfs.

Even funnier is that serfs in the actual Middle Ages had to work far less than these modern would-be-Lords want to squeeze out of their workers.

I think most tech heads that work at Google, Meta, Amazon, etc want to work those crazy hours along with the best talent in their field for top dollar... they have that Mamba Mentality. They could work less elsewhere and many of them who actually value leisure actually do.

Some of them. I know some software engineers who worked or work for these corps that do absolutely nothing all day (and one even had a second job). The impacts of the pandemic over-hiring have still not fully been corrected from what I hear.

But then another who does AI research & regularly files patents and whatnot for Google... That guy is pure Mamba. I swear none of my circle has seen him in 6 years; he's very committed and work is all he has. It's impressive. But he's not really a software engineer like the others I know... And he makes close to $1m/year all together so yeah.

My tech friends, OTOH, are less ambitious, so they work in IT at Chapters Indigo or Canadian Tire, and they do ok and have plenty of free time

We never left the feudal system, really.

Over here we may not have had a King, (though obviously mini-hitler fancies himself one) but Hollywood provides us with our Lords and Ladies, we have Sports with our Knights, throw in some Bishops... all too keep us oblivious to the fact that a long time ago, the world was divided unfairly, and they don't want it to be fair.

...I also believe there will always be serfs...not every human being aspires to something meaningful, and it is fair if their choices leave them with less than others, just not because of where you born or who you were born to.

nah that is way off i'm sorry. we have it so much fucking better than serfs it's unreal. too many people just don't appreciate how much us normy schmucks have gained through this western democratic project.

The big mistake we've made was not keeping the guillotines sharp to keep the billionaire class in line over the last 40 years.

Globalization was a gift to humanity that took hundreds of millions out of dirt poor poverty, but we let the top 0.1% soak up 99% of the benefits.

If people could wrap their heads around large numbers...and understand what $10 Billion actually represents (much less $400B)...the guillotines would already be sharpened
