Why do I feel like the alpha bullshit is pushback on the metoo movement? Men feeling a power shift in their lives, and scrambling to hold onto what power they had over others.

Every "alpha male" I know is just a quiet hard-working man, who takes no shit. If you need to demand respect, you haven't earned it.

It’s been said before, but to mediocre, insecure men who’ve been accustomed to privilege by virtue of their gender, equality can feel like they’re being attacked. Like the one inherent thing about them that they believe makes them superior is being taken away or turned around on them.

So yeah, a lot of this “alpha male” BS is a direct push-back against “MeToo”, or even just feminism in general before that, since there are plenty of modern explicitly misogynist movements (Proud Boys, MGTOW, incels, etc) that pre-date MeToo.

These guys that tell you how tough/manly they are never impress me. I was taught (and it's been pretty accurate) that the toughest/manliest men are the least vocal about their toughness.

Yeah, this is definitely very noticeable.

Ditto for guys who are vocal about how nice they are.
