Tech Thread

Kind of frustrating that no sane person with deep pockets has just fired up a Twitter clone yet and kicked off a mass migration.

It’s funny—basically right from the moment Starship blew up, everyone from SpaceX rushed to gleefully declare the test flight a success, largely because it didn’t blow up the launch pad.

But it seems like through poor design of the launch pad, the normal operation of the rocket when taking off destroyed the launch pad anyway. The engines dug out a massive crater and it looks like dirt, sand and rocks got fired all around the launch area as high speed projectiles and damaged other equipment.

Though no one can say exactly how bad the damage is, as SpaceX won’t let any media anywhere near the launch pad and also won’t let media/photographers who set up remote recording devices retrieve their equipment.
