Tech Thread

Usually love future tech....but this is probably decades or forever away unless China has figured out to construct them for functional price. It requires an entirely new set of infrastructure, only really makes sense for certain routes and more or less requires you to ignore stops between major destinations or else you start losing the benefits of the extra speed.

Awesome results though and hopefully this can develop into something that can challenge air travel over dedicated medium distance routes.
If they tell dorito they can move immigrants faster from LA to the alligator prison I’m sure he would do it

I'm not sure if it will ever be economic though. We're probably closer to light enough batteries to make airliners electric than we are to make maglev economic. It's the cost of the tracks, not the trains. The only existing maglev line in the world cost about 65M USD (2025 dollars) per km in China to build, so triple that here, easily. Just to match the time it takes on a short haul flight from Toronto island.
And this guy doesn’t know the difference between SS and cast iron grill grates.

My VIA to MTL averages 65KM/hr

I've taken it on a return trip from Kingston a couple of times and it's fucking horrific. Truly embarrassing.

Oh hey yeah, you'll notice that we've stopped here, randomly somewhere outside of Belleville for apparently no reason. You see, there is a freight train that has the right of way because of course it does, we're a third world country or something and don't have functioning rail travel, and we're going to be sitting here for 45 minutes until it slowly passes us. Feel free to enjoy the wifi that doesn't work and the absolutely nothing we have available for refreshments.
