Tech Thread

and the money is surely for Nvidia to lend to OpenAI and Anthropic so that they can buy more GPU's from Nvidia to put in massive data centres they're going to get financed through deals with Google, Microsoft, & Amazon. Nvidia books those deals now which leads to hedge fund geniuses talking about how AI profits are up because look at all of the money Nvidia is printing.

Its all a circular clown fuck playing with economy wrecking numbers to chase illusory future profits with because number must go up faster and faster forever.
 
This obviously belongs in the tech thread - anyone know a thing or two about washer/dryers?

Lately my dryer is for sure shrinking my clothes. I haven't changed any setting, but it goes in fine and comes out smaller. I tried to experiment by drying with cooler temp or setting to delicates rather than normal, but those don't dry properly. I feel like any repairman I bring will just waste my time and money because he'd say it's drying hot and coming out dry and fine. There must be something to try short of having to hang shit up and air dry.

I know that, but I mean dramatically on one particular wash and not really gradually over time. Like perfectly right sized and wearable before a wash, and then suddenly noticeably more snug and uncomfortable right after a wash. I don't even know how it's possible other than maybe it's broken and getting crazy excessively hot for part of the cycle?

The alternative is your dryer intermittently becomes the same temperature as the interior of a medium sized star for 45 minutes at a time and I think we would have noticed the glow by now on laundry day.

Seriously though, check which cycle you're running, check the fabrics of the clothes that are shrinking. High heat + cotton = shrinky.

Tumble dry as low as fuck, for as short as you can get away with. Also, hang drying is entirely superior.

The hang dry is a pain in the ass and takes up space and time. The cycle I run cottons on is just the "normal" one. The other settings don't seem to apply (delicates, bedding, etc.). I tried on delicates a couple of times but it doesn't properly dry. So annoying.

Do a deep dive into the cotton you're buying, buy synthetic, or buy a collapsible hang drying rack for your balcony.

My issue with the dryer is mostly with jeans, which are made out of whatever they are, presumably blends and not just cotton. Everything else doesn't really matter and doesn't really seem to be shrinking. But really all I use the dryer for are towels, delicates and shitty tshirts/shorts, bedding, and jeans.
 
Few things out there piss me off more than the shrinking of clothes, to be honest.

Completely unnecessary, ruins the garment in an irreversible way, and requires spending on replacements. Like you can drop a can of coke on white pants and get the stain out no prob, but you can't unshrink the pants once shrunk and use them again.
