It'll be a tough split between McLellean and Babcock IMO.. of course, I think Babcock had the tougher task with the sheer number of rookies.

The award should pretty much come down to Babcock and Tortorella. They oversaw the two biggest year-over-year improvements this season. Tortorella's team had a slightly bigger year-over-year improvement than the Leafs---32 points, vs. a 26-point improvement for Babcock & the Leafs.

Still, I think it's got to go to Babcock.

Babcock didn't have his starter post a .931 SV% this year after only putting up a .908 SV% last season. And Babcock didn't have a team full of returning veterans that had underperformed the previous year. Instead, he had six rookies who all played a regular shift in 77 or more games, and regularly was dressing 7-9 rookies per night.

He also got those rookies to buy in to a disciplined system, and got the whole team as well as his individual players (both rookies & vets) to stay on the rails for the whole year, and keep improving as the year wore on. Not to mention getting into the playoffs with a defense core that had been widely derided, and called "putrid" before the start of the season.

Babs should win based on the Doughty treatment. All 3 are deserving, but Babs has been deserving for 20 years and they've never given him one.

And what does Babs think of the Jack Adams?

"I'll tell you who I think is the best coach. The best coach is whoever takes a photo with that silver cup when it's all over. I still want to be that guy."

Two different sets of voters. Gms vote the vezina.
That's fair but to many Bob is the runaway Vezina winner (regardless of who actually votes). I'm saying those who vote for coach of the year will likely not vote for Torts because in their minds, the goalie is why that team won.

That as well as Babs not having won a Jack Adams makes him a clear winner in my mind.

Everyone looks at the kids and thinks they are so talented that they made Babs' job easy for him.

But when the hell has half a team of rookies ever done what these Leafs did this year, and go on that epic run when they were vying for the last spot?

Babs didn't have the benefit of a goalie stealing the show, and he also gradually improved the team defensively as the year went on. Sure there were the occasional 7-2 flop here and there, but for the most part, the team was playing a sound overall game, with kids who have never been in the league leading the way, and special teams being at or near the top of the league.

If Babs doesn't win it, it would be criminal.
