The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

New GSVAs today. Leafs are bouncing up.

Willy finally for the first time in a long time broke up into the top-end of the 2nd-tier wingers. Within spitting distance of the 1st-tier guys now.

And with some offense finally coming for Ras, he's leaped all the way past Lilly and Gio even though both Lilly and Gio improved too.

Even Bunting squeezed his way back into the 2nd tier winger lists.

Suddenly we have a ton of guys in the positional top-32 lists.

Matthews 6.0 (#2 C)
Tavares 3.3 (#13-14 C)

Rielly 2.8 (#10-11 D)
Sandin 2.3 (#19-20 D)
Lilly 2.2 (#21-26 D)
Gio 2.1 (#27-30 D)

Marner 4.6 (#5-6 W)
Nylander 3.5 (#14-15 W)
Bunting 2.8 (#30-34 W)
our D is so damn good right now

Leaf fans still talking about adding bad dmen from literally the worst defensive teams in hockey like Gavrikov and Schenn to "fix" our defense.

"Leafs D is very good. They should just chill. Be patient, fans, and go about your day" wouldn't have provoked a lot of engagement.

actually, I think the talking asses going on at length about the Leafs tremendous defensive depth and strong statistical performance would have triggered A LOT of folks and prompted A LOT of engagement.

You know very well that the majority of the hockey world does not in fact believe the Leafs D is good at all.

if it doesn't bleed, it doesn't lead
I dunno, I feel like there is a big opportunity for a zeke/LOF-esque character to emerge in the Canadian sports media and become basically a lightning rod for all the Leaf haters, which is what, like half the hockey fans in the country (other half being Leaf fans, obviously).

can you imagine all the folks from western canada who would patiently wait on hold for an opportunity to spend a minute screaming at zeke to explain why the Leafs D akshually sux?

Yeah I think they're just saying things that are shared viewpoints by most folks, which is fine, even if wrong.

zeke would be a media sensation

I'm a big proponent of alt viewpoints in mainstream sports. bring it!

unless like most of you, I spend zero time reading mainstream muppet tweets and articles about my favourite teams

these guys just cut and paste dusty views until they stop working

For some it's what drives the passion. The "prove em' wrong" mentality is another thing that can add to the experience as a sports fan. I have no issue with peoples passion being fueled by anything that tickles their cocks/cunts. Even WeHave is allowed to be obsessively weird about how he musters up his sports passion. Fair game!

I don't know what the majority of the hockey world believe...other than what I read on this thread. This is my only exposure to it -- I don't have cable tv, I don't read anything on the subject of sports except The Athletic, and some select substacks.

I mean I try to keep my head down and avoid the noise but this is next level stuff.

to each their own...the Leaf fanbase on FI seems particularly invested in what other folks have to say about their team.

WeHave is overly obsessed about Leaf futility but I've never seen him post "can you believe what that guy said about our goaltending??""
