The Fantastically Beautiful Joyously Superfun 22-23 Season Celebration Thread

I mean, depth is good and teams often add #7-8 defenders to their roster in the event of injuries and shit. But I just don't see this. Timmins has been a very good #7 for us already and probably deserves more reps and not less. If Schenn is our Benn replacement, fine, Benn is junk.

But I don't trust Sheldon to not play him over much better defenders, or to fuck the lineup around (Brodie to the left, Sandin out) to get Schenn in on the 3rd pair.

What's the cost there though? Jeebus

retained Ekholm's value is supposedly around 2 1sts. think that's from Lebrun.

Saros I'm not sure is even available...if he were, that would have to be Glasses #1 priority even ahead of Ekholm.

the thought of this Leaf team except with a top goalie is pretty appealing. I don't think we're going to win a Samsonov-Vasilevski battle, even if our roster does compare better to theirs vs. last season's coin flip playoff.

Im going to count on Elliotte and Jeff not having a clue about what Dubas is doing.

They all claimed after the fact that "well we had the Leafs in on ROR a month before it happened" despite it happening right under their noses on a Friday night at 11pm

I don’t buy at all that the Leafs are in on Schenn.

Regarding the cost though—teams do often overpay for shitty depth defensemen at the deadline. Especially if they’re physical and have leaderbeans.

I mean, the Leafs got two 2nd rounders for Roman Polak, for fuck’s sake. And the Habs got a 1st for Chiarot.

So I wouldn’t rule out physical, gritty, leaderbeany two-time-Cup-champ Luke Schenn garnering a stupid return, in spite of the fact that he sucks and has been available for free at various times recently.

Oh sure, it’ll happen. Hopefully it ain’t us

Canucks expecting a 2nd or a lower pick with a B prospect

It's so easy being any other Canadian franchise. Imagine having an entire national media structure so willing to pump the tires of every piece of shit on your roster? If we were trading Justin Holl (an actual #4 defender on most teams) we would be seeing intermission discussions about how we'll be lucky to get a mid rounder, etc. Oh, the #5 on one of the worst teams in hockey? 2nd rounder or a 3rd with a good prospect.

For a guy who couldn't crack the top 6 of the last few good teams he's played on.

With Schenn, you get toughness.

On the other hand, you are over paying for a spare defenseman. He would be hard pressed to crack the top 6 on most of the contending Stanley Cup teams.

Luke Schenn has been playing pretty well this year. In addition to toughness and shot blocking, he's also got 21 points in 55 games.

Certainly a pretty good #7 depth guy who most playoff teams could use.

Leafs are ahead of Tampa in almost every defensive statistic at 5v5 and PK this year yet the "Toronto D bad" narrative is alive and well

As of today, the only advantage they have is goaltending
