The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Going back to Gio-Lilly again now is a key sign I think. The Gio-Holl and Gio-Boosh pairings were disasters.

Meanwhile, Muzz-Brodie was also excellent in their one game together and if they look good again tonight I'm thinking their headed towards lock status.

which leaves Boosh with Rielly - because Mo-Holl has never been a fit either.

Babushkie is no link at all, but Muzz is the next weak link here. Playing him like he's a lock is a mistake. Holl might be better.

But what can you do, can't sit a guy making $6M.

Since the trade deadline:

xGF%

1. Lilly 67.7
2. Muzz 61.7
3. Gio 59.5
4. TJ 58.2
5. Holl 56.9
6. Mo 53.0
7. Boosh 48.7

but.....defense only...

xGA/60

1. Lilly 1.52
2. Gio 1.84
3. TJ 2.20
4. Boosh 2.31
5. Muzz 2.32
6. Mo 2.40
7. Holl 2.49

And to his credit, Boosh gets heavy dzone usage becuase he doesn't get the o-zone draws much at all.

Now Holl gets tough usage fair enough but the fact that he's the worst on the pure defensive metric is why everyone is angry at him and why there's a real argument that Boosh might complete the defense bettter IF used properly.

The fact is that we have a really damn good dcorps and we might be able to afford carrying on overall lesser player IF he is an upgrade in a very specific way or role.

Anyone that places under Babushkie in any metric needs to be released, including Rielly. That's embarrassing.

Lilly is a fucking STAR.

If Gio-Lilly is right back to awesome tonight Keefe is going to have a helluva time splitting them up again.

And then it'll be down to two options:

Rielly - Boosh
Muzz - Brodie

or

Rielly - Brodie
Muzz - Holl

Keefe has admitted that he's been horny for Muzz-Brodie for a couple years now. He said he feels like they have a good enough dcorps to do it for the first time. I think that's easily the top option for them. And they'll likely get the heavies.

Only on board with that if they hire Ducharme.

That guy is MONEY in the playoffs (other than the finals, and also not the regular season).

when Ducharme gets Covid and can't speak to his players, he is hard to beat.

Meh, the Gio trade was the end of his season anyway.

We should 100% trade Muzzin in the off season and replace him with Gio, and give that 3rd pairing spot to Raz

Rielly-Brodie
Gio-Lilly
Raz-Holl

Is pretty sexy looking and we can probably get something decent for Muzz this summer.

Would be fun to win the Cup, trade Muzz for a 1st, and then have two 1sts to use in our cup defending season.

The rest of Canada's heads would blow up and Dubie's statue would be commissioned.

Nice d, but shit relying on a 90 year old Gio and Lilly to get the toughs scares me. Not the Lilly part necessarily, but Gio may not be at that point in his career. I guess that's what the deadline is for though if things go south.

Fuck they better win this year. They are so stacked back there.

But yeah we all speculated at the time that they may need to move Muzz in th last or second last year of his contract. Hurts, but they will need to do it at some point..

If that happens, switch Sandin with Gio.

I expect Sandin to surpass Gio anyway, without much of an issue.

Hope so. Big jump to go from sheltered third pair to the to matchup pair though. I personally don't ever see that from Raz. Which is fine, it's not for everyone. I see him more as the Morgan Rielly that is worse offensively but better defensively. Second pair type.

With Rielly locked in as one of the top 4 d, I'm not sure I see the fit longterm. So hopefully he becomes that defensive stalwart.

Muzz having a really good playoff run could be a gift. They'd get a lot for him and while they'd miss him, I still think trading him might be the move.

They won't miss him. His offensive ability and speed are things of the past, and his defensive abilities are ugly right now.

Heavy matchup pairings are over rated imo.

Not that having someone you can trust is bad, but the excessive matching of them is imo. Being able to spread the love a little bit (basically...don't have a shit 3rd pairing and a defensively allergic OZ pairing) is big. With Brodie & Holl both being good enough to babysit in limited heavy usage, I'd be happy with that.

Also...I trust old Gio more than I trust this older, slower, less durable version of Muzzin.
