The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Until you win a round, Leafs could add McDavid and Draisatl and the media would still be “not sure they have what it takes”
Weaknesses: lack depth outside of their 4 100 point players, Tavares, Nylander and Bunting

Strengths: their top six forwards might be pretty good offensively in the regular season

The leafs have added two guys who play in their top 4 since the season started and only subtracted their #7. How is defensive depth an issue here? Does every team have 10 top 6 guys?

It's like the hockey universe didn't recalibrate their opinions after we added Gio.

I get it that they're going to sleep on Lilly for as long as they possibly can, but we added Gio and they're all trying to pretend that it didn't happen when they assess the team.

Come on. “The leafs d lacks depth” is just a lazy reflexive dumbphuck take.

Everyone is as lazy as they can get away with it. Learned that on an African safari. Lion would rather steal food than kill for it.

yeah that one is dumb.

unless Muzzin and Holl have truly taken a step back, then it is still a question mark.

Even let's say that they have and Muzz has taken step back from being a #2 guy to a #4 guy and Holl from a #4 guy to a 5-6. That still leaves a "top 4" of Rielly-Brodie-Gio-Muzzin.

3 of whom had stellar reputations before we added them and where the exact type of defencemen we've needed in Toronto apparently.

it's just not fair that people say mean things about us just because we haven't won a playoff round since the invention of Gmail
Its not the mean bit that deserves criticism. It's the stupid takes. They should have been meaner to Matthews and Marner, if anything. They're the reasons they lost two years in a row against garbage teams and absolutely deserve to be questioned and not fully trusted until they prove it.

I think Muzz has stepped back, but I honestly think Holl is still pretty damn good. I would not say he's any less than a #4.

Rielly is top pair, Brodie might even be borderline #2 given how fucking amazing he is defensively.

Lilly is legit awesome, no worse than a #3 at this point imo.

And Gio has been great, a seamless add.

Not to mention Lyubu...eh, let's just stop there.

And Sandin is their #8! #NoDepth

And if I were Keefe, he would honestly play.

The Muzz situation is difficult. I would've traded him at the deadline. I think it was the best thing for the team this year and next - could be wrong, but we'll see soon enough how much of an impact he can make. But he wasn't traded, so him still on the team, what do you do if everyone is healthy?

Babushkie is an instant scratch. So then it comes down to Muzzin and Sandin for the 6th spot. I'd rather play mobile and smart Sandin, but I would let Muzzin play first, and if he looks no better than before, switch him for Sandin until he looks like he's not doing well, and then switch back.

I'm very fearful and lack complete confidence in Babushkie suiting up for the playoffs. But I do find myself wondering if Dubie got him because he'd like to for once have a grunt punching and hitting everything in sight and not getting penalized.

Curious as to why that is....

Their best player is a midget with 19 points in 30 career playoff games. Their centre depth, which I've been told is very important in the playoffs is Lindholm-Backlund-Jarnkrok. Which is basically like having a Tavares-Kampf-Kampf top 3.

and their blueline is this:

Hanifin-Andersson
Kylington-Tanev
Zadorov-Gudbranson

Which is kind of shit, but will throw some cross checks, I guess.

Shit, we can continue...

- Matt Tkachuk has 5 points in 15 playoff games
- Elias Lindholm has 8 points in 15 playoff games
- Eat Bread has 6 in 15

I'm not trying to convince anyone that the Leafs deserve to be believed in, but what the fuck has Calgary done to deserve any playoff hype at all, over anyone?

I don't know about hype, but if we're picking between Calgary, Edmonton and toronto?

I think for me it's the Flames ability to prevent goals (#3 GA) that stands out, but to be fair they have outscored the Oilers and have put up 90+% of the Leaf totals.

Sounds like you think wins are a noisy stat.
