The Goddamn #TitleRun Thread

I absolutely despise blaming the refs. It's part of the game that they're shit most of the time and the key is to win in spite of that, which they still should have. The refs were obviously a factor last night as they are in many games. But so were Kerfoot and Jack Campbell being shit. And if those two weren't shit we'd be looking ahead to Florida right now. It is what it is. Refs, Kerf and Jack ruined a near perfect game. Time to move on. I think they're the favorites in game 7 but even then, it's one individual hockey game so you probably have a 55-60% chance tomorrow at best.

I'm thinking the real reason behind all this is some leaf fan chick broke your heart in elementary school.

Takes time to heal I know.
When I was in elementary school the Habs beat the Leafs in 4 straight two years running. My Leafs loving classmates from those days are the ones with PTSD, not me.

unfortunately it's only the latter that really counts.

kadri was pretty damn good. but he was really bad when it counted for us. Gardiner, deec offensive dman. but utter shit when the pressure was on. the list goes on.
Precisely. If a player is good only until being good actually matters then he's of no use to you. I know the stats geeks don't want to admit this but "clutch" is a real thing. There's a reason why Vasilevsky pitches a shutout in series clinchers. Because he is clutch. He hasn't been clutch so far in this series, and he wasn't in Game 6 against the Islanders last season either, but tomorrow night is Game 7.

Clearly from making your acquaintance
I was in Southern Ontario, a lone Habs fan in a sea of delusional Leafs fans who actually believed that Sittler was better than Lafleur, that Lanny was better than Shutt, that Salming was better than Robinson, and that Palmateer was better than Dryden. I did it to them for their own good, really. They should thank me.

Just so people don't start confusing me with WeHave, let me interrupt my Leaf fan wallowing in self-pity to present Positives for Tomorrow(tm):

-until we blew our own foot off, we were better in OT. Tampa started to look gassed. This is good. as the younger and quicker team we should have better legs up and down the lineup.

-Cooper cannot match Point like he can at home. Point is awesome, and so that is good news for us

-Vasi has not been elite level Vasi. we have some good shooters, but he's been more human at least so far.

-the top guys have shown up a lot more, especially than last year. that is good.

-crowd is present and on our side. 115 points pays dividends besides a ridiculous round 1 matchup maybe? we'll see.

They're present, until the Leafs fall behind. Then their presence can become problematic. The fans are way more nervous about tomorrow than the players, and more fragile.

Salming was better than Robinson.

Blaming the officiating for losing is the epitome of pathetic. NHL refereeing didn't suddenly become crap 24 hours ago. You know going in that you can't count on it so it's on you to make sure that the refs aren't a factor. The way you do that is to score more goals. According to your own fancy stats, this series shouldn't even be close enough for a bad call to matter. If the Leafs aren't winning every game by 3 goals that's on them, not the refs. They were the better team last night, but only after they spotted Tampa a 2 goal lead. That can't keep happening if you expect to advance. This series is tied mostly because the Leafs give up too many garbage goals. They dominate the play and then Soupy lays an egg or Kerfoot has a brain cramp. It's always something.

"Refs screwed us" is getting old. Change the record.

The Leafs just got epically insanely screwed.

Leafs got their matchup with Point last night and largely dominated him. It was mostly the Matthews line and Muzzin-Brodie vs them. Can't ask for anything better.

Cooper lived with that and got Stamkos and Kucherov up against the Rielly's of the world and the JT line and that was the major difference last night. It was their only line going all night. At home Muzzin and Brodie + Kampf line are the guys who get that matchup and it's typically a hard match and leafs do quite well on it.
