The Good The Bad & The Ugly - Round 2, Game 2 - Habs vs Bruins

Habs wingers continue to struggle along half-wall

Through the first 2 games of the series versus the Boston Bruins, Montreal Candiens wingers have turned the puck over 39.5% of the time they have attempted a play with possession in the defensive-zone; the same group of players turned the puck over only 24.9% of the time they had possession against the Tampa Bay Lightning in round one.

This graph displays every Habs player's defensive-zone puck-possession success-rate through the first two game of round 2. Turnover-rates can be calculated simply by subracting each player's possession success-rate from 100. Josh Gorges, Alexei Emelin, and David Desharnais are the only Montreal players to have better d-zone possession ratings against Boston than they averaged during the Tampa Bay series.

Yeah, that's glaring. The turnovers occur because they're being pressured. Something the Habs need to be doing to the Bruins.

If the Habs can't bounce back after today's loss they don't deserve to move on.

There's going to be heartbreaking losses in the playoffs for even the cup champs whoever they are going to be.

You gotta move on quickly

I wonder what board would have been like after game 1 against Quebec in 1993.

That's why the Philly & CBJ were such a poor matchup for the Habs. Technically the Bruins should be too, we're talking about human beings and there's a psychological factor that skews data at times...

Yup the Bruins should be a bad matchup but we can hang with them for some reason.

How is Bergevin supposed to build a contender, if even our big players disappear in the playoffs (Max for example)

I expect some lineup changes for game 3. Also, we'll see if last change can alleviate some of the late meltdown issue.

I hope Therrien now realizes that he should save his timeout for the end of the game to rest the players that are actually stopping the Bruins.

55 is a good bet to sit. Will 6 replace him or Tinordi? If the last change doesn't help then there's a problem behind the bench.

Yeah I was surprised he called it when he did just because it was an icing. We were up by two weren't we? He's gone from never calling a timeout to over-doing it. I think it's 'cause he lacks an innate hockey sense.

as a coach you are damn if you, and damn if you don't, when calling for your timeout, we don't know if the players on the ice were asking for a timeout or not.

my opinion about Pleks or Markov is not an agenda, I call it the way I see it, if they do good, i say it... as far as Markov and Souray, it is a dead horse, beat it all you want , i just wont join you

Sorry, that's nothing short of delusional bullshit. You criticized Pleks on the tying goal in game 1 - part of it was for losing the faceoff - and you gave him zero credit on the winning goal, wait for it, for winning the faceoff.

Please.

I think the timeout was good because we were dead tired, and we cleared the zone so it was a good timeout.

We even went on to score a goal and make it 3-1....so it goes to show that the timeout was warranted.

When you fook-up a 2-goal lead in the 3rd, you cannot blame the coach and the timeout. Bruins scored another lucky goal, and we folded. Because we are too weak between the ears. This series was over when the Bruins tied it 3-3 in the 3rd....the rest was inevitable

Maybe...

Pleks and Markov are the least of our problems....

I praised Gionta in Game 1, but yesterday, he turned over the puck at key moments in the game, and couldn't clear the zone with the puck on his stick....unacceptable.

We all praised Max in the regular season, but a 40-goal scorer (38 goals) does not simply vanish in the playoffs....I saw DD and Gallagher go up against Bruins big dmen head first without hesitation, but Max/Vanek are too afraid...

We will go as far as our first line takes us.....this isn't about goaltending anymore, as we all have proof that Rask is beatable, and we are his kryptonite.

Was not blaming MT for the loss yesterday. Very unlucky. Boston was nowhere on the 3rd until Hamilton's goal. I will blame MT if 55 is in the lineup on Tuesday.

The year the Bruins won the Cup, we were up 3-1 in the 3rd period, in Game 4 at the Bell Center....had we held on, the series would have been 3-1 for us, and it was over. We let them back in the game, and the rest of those playoffs are history.

Yesterday's game was a bad reminder of those days...as was the series against the Canes when we were up 3-1 in that game, and then Gilmour hit the post, and then Therrien fooked up on the faceoff assignments

While I enjoyed your trip down memory lane, it's completely irrelevant to what is happening in this series. Just saying.

So u conveniently forgot how the soon to be Cup winner on game 7 home ice, gave up a last minute goal in the 3rd to tie the game causing OT. Even the OT goal by Horton only went in because it deflected off Halpern as he dove to make a shot block.

we will go as far as Price stands on his head and spits dimes like he did in game 1 . Our top line will not be the difference maker unless we get many pp opportunities and they cash in , 5/5 this is not the line you go to war with , too perimeter and scared to go deep ion the trenches . And even if our pp clicks it will be PK as the catalyst to make things happen for those 3 , Pk has been a horse in the playoffs .
