The ****ing Offseason Thread - 2016

Yea i don't see anything too fishy about Robidas. Lupul on the other hand is only 32 years old so i'm not sure how we'll just hide him on LTIR. I want him to come back and have a healthy year.

I could make an argument that we might have one of the worst goalie tandems in the nhl I think. but i'd have to check.

Well it's not any better than the tandem last year, that's for sure.

I'd have a hard time arguing he's even substantially better than Bernier.

u guys should stfu about the goaltending until we see them play.

the dumb arguments about the goaltenders and idiotic biases ppl held made this place ****ing terrible for 3 full years.

seriously, nothing here has been less consistent than stands people have taken about goaltenders, other than simplistic views on aggregate sv%.

2yr

Andersen 97gms, .916sv%
Enroth 66gms, .907sv%

I mean that's not bias, it's just not very good.

and I don’t see why Team Reimer should ever have to shut up about goaltending ever again, tbh.

2yrs

Reimer 75gms, .915
Bernier 96gms, .910

ya, like i said, simplistic views on aggregate sv%...

if you really think that bernier = andersen then be my guest.

to date, andersen has proven that he can handle a larger workload than bernier and - more importantly - be much more consistent.

as for enroth, when used as a backup his numbers have been quite good. he can' thandle a starters workload but isn't going to be expected to.

his numbers in 11-12, 12-13, 13-14 and 15-16 are all very good #s for a backup goaltender.

better than what the leafs have gotten out of your mormon butt buddy in most seasons.

lol ya not getting back into this stupid nonsense.

reimer is a mediocre goaltender. so is bernier. for most of bernier's tenure here, he was the better goaltender. but sure use a 2 year 75 game split.

(thumbs up)

truth is reimer was top 10 in 2 of his first 3 seasons, then struggled for 2 yrs after being shoved into a backup role, then was top 10 again last year when he finally got a legit chance at starting again.

Andersen has had one year where he came close to a fulltime starting role and was subpar.

over reimer's final 103 games with the leafs he posted a .912 sv%.

he was only above that mark in 1 of those 3 seasons...

even using your simplistic reading of sv%... he wasn't good.

neither was bernier, but i don't know why being about the same level quality goaltender as bernier is worth having this discussion.

lol airtight argument there.

I'm willing to give Andersen sufficient time before making conclusions. And our management group deserves the benefit of the doubt.

and if you don't like aggregate save percentage...even strength save percentage

Career

Reimer (28) 215gms, .925
Andersen (27) 125gms, .925
Bernier (28) 213gms, .922
Enroth (28) 147gms, .921

3yrs (i.e. since freddy joined the league)

Reimer 111gms, .925
Andersen 125gms, .925
Bernier 151gms, .923
Enroth 94gms, .919

the main difference being that both reimer and bernier have shown the ability to be well above average goalies in a starting role, while neither andersen nor enroth have.

Yeah, I don't have much faith in him either. Just no track record of being an above-average goalie when handling a starter's workload. I hope he proves me wrong.
Regarding Anderson:
His adjusted even strength save percentage for high danger + medium-danger shots is fantastic. It's 6th overall in the last five years for goaltenders with 5,000 minutes played or more. Bernier, for context, is ranked 34th. In addition, among goaltenders with 100+ games played since 2012-13, Frederik Andersen ranks 11th in Adj.FenSV% in All Situations. These are some of the likely numbers that the Leafs management team was crunching over the past year when they recognized the need to find a stable goaltender. Bernier was going to be a UFA, Reimer was in his UFA year and unlikely to come back, and more than that, they wanted to have someone who plays well within the confines of a Babcock system. They reviewed all the shots that Babcock's system has given up over the years, and in all likelihood, Andersen was at, or near the top, of the list of goaltenders who could play effectively within that system.

I feel pretty confident after having a summer to think on it. I didn't like it initially.
