The ****ing Offseason Thread - 2016

So if a great player like Matthews ups numbers of someone like Hyman (who let's face it is no more than a 3rd line guy), you as a GM should just look at the fact Hyman scored 20 some goals, had great possession numbers, etc...and forget about everything else(like the fact someone made him look considerably better and he most likely won't reach anything close with your team?).

Babcock says he doesn't know much about Seth Griffith but that Hunter vouched for him.

Just to clarify, when you say small sample, are you talking about the four NHL games he played last year?
 
Somehow I get the feeling that if the Leafs just waived a player they drafted that scored 77 points in 57 games as a 22 year old in the AHL and lost him for nothing there would be a lot of complaining by the same people complaining now.

what's more encouraging is that based on their recent drafting Griffith is exactly the kind of player that the new Bruins' FO would idiotically undervalue.
 
Why is everyone so mad that I pointed out the obvious with regards to Dubas? Bizarre reaction from you all. I'm not going by some stupid Simmons article - it's common sense. The GM has more power than the Assistant GM - wow, what a novel concept. What concerns me though is the level of input Babcok has with personnel decisions. Matt Martin and Roman Polak were largely Babcock based from all accounts. That's where the trouble lies, at least for me.
 
And no one is complaining. I'm just saying he sucks and is a longshot.

But after thinking about it, if they can throw Leivo on IR and give Griffith a bit of a tryout, I'm very okay with that. Even if it's at the expense of sending down Brown for a bit when Leivo returns. If Griff continues to suck dick, you waive him again. Easy. No risk move, for a player with higher upside than Pulkk, who is essentially another Leivo. Very little value to a team like the Leafs to grab someone like Pulkk.

I'm not expecting much but as long as no one is waived as a result of it, there's nothing wrong with taking a flyer on the guy.
 
If thats the trouble I don't think its much to be concerned about. Its not like he had them sign Lucic and Russell. They are pretty inconsequential signings. Both depth players with minimal cap consequences.

It should be collaborative anyway. I don't have a problem with that. The coach, and Hunter should be thrown a bone just like Dubas should be on minor moves like these.
 
You have created a narrative in your head that Dubas is being pushed out based on moves that you assume he is against.

Only you and Steve Simmons are on the same wave length when it comes to that idea.

Oh I don't think he's being pushed out at all. I just think it's pretty clear that Lou does what Lou wants to do though. He is the Gm, so that is only fair after all.
 
But this pick up was what Hunter wanted to do. And Martin and Polak were what Babcock wanted to do. And we can only assume the Leafs picking a ton of overagers in the draft was what Dubas wanted to do. The only thing clear about what Lou likes to do is letting his guys do their jobs, and relying on them.

It works exactly how Shanny described. Try to convince me to make a move, and if you can we'll do it.

That seems a bit naive to me.
 
There is no reason to think it is naive. That is how this organization has said they will work, and said they have worked (see Babs saying they relied on Hunter here, and Lou saying Babs wanted Martin). There is literally no reason to doubt it.

Shanny has been upfront about what they are doing from day one. Yet still some people won't take his words at face value.
