The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

Not sure that’s a good comp. potential for similar offence butheyre very diffferent players. Klingberg can skate the puck and attack. Timmins not so much.
Both offensive d that can't play d. But yeah Klingberg just ignores even trying to play defence which will be fun. Different stylistically for sure.

Mirtles become a clickbait dumby.

“Fairly significant aav”

though maybe they should have just gone all in on Gus

I thought about Gus too. At least he has been legit great when sheltered. Though sheltered D is still pretty much not comparable to unshelterrd D.

Klingberg hasnt been sheltered yet so we don't know, but he'd likely be very good in that role.

I think the bigger thing is that he's a very good skater still (unlike guys like Barrie) which i hope makes him more useful and should improve team speed.

I will say that adding another d that could jump into the rush would have done wonders in the playoffs. The only time they were able to create space was Rielly saying fuck it and playing forward, creating some odd man opportunities. I don't hate the player and I'm encouraged by the direction that Tre is taking with this one (goes in line with him saying he wants them to play differently and attack a bit more). But he'll need some mega sheltering.

This will mean that either Lilly has to play a more unsheltered role or Brad is gonna trade for another D.

Nightmare scenario would be Lilly for Zadorov or something.

Dom's model showing Gus as a 6.1m dollar player and kling 2.4m is exhibit A on your main point here re: sheltering. Klingberg may be the worse player (though I personally doubt it) but I can't imagine the gap is that large.

Hard to tell.

I'd like to see the difference in Dom's numbers for Toronto Sandin and Washington Sandin.

There is at least something to this, I think. Reaves may not be the right guy on the ice but it does seem at times like a team full of robots and don't give a fucks. If this guy is as valuable in the room as people say, that does count for something.
Kyle said similar things when he brought back Simmonds, added O'Reilly, etc. The group is obviously quiet and can probably lack intensity at times (whodda thunk it!). I'll never defend the signing but there's something to it for sure.
