The Mother-fucking goddamn Off-season Thread

I wish Gilmour had been assistant GMing somewhere with success and ready to step up.

Would be ideal to get a Toronto boy, former Leafs star, and with a track record.

Semis like for Shanahan keeping Dubas required money, a whole lot of spending money and because of this his mind was no longer set on him. Set. on. him

what was babcock making? I doubt this was about money. At the end of the day this is Shanahan's fault for not extending him a year ago and leaving him as a lame duck GM all year. Shanahan said they wanted to bring Dubas back so this isn't about performance. I'd say Shanahan dropped the ball here. #fireShanahan

"Lame Duck" isn't when you're in the last year of a deal, it's when you're at the tail end of your deal and your power has been removed...you're just watching the clock until you're gone.

Dubas very clearly had the ability to make roster changes at the deadline, and they appear to be his own choices as well. He was no lame duck.

All Kyle had to do was take the deal that was on the table (which sounds like it was pretty excellent money for a GM that hasn't won anything) and not crumble at a presser.

Career achievement: "Bag Fumbler" got unlocked instead.

Pretty sure Holland's 5m per year was considered a pretty massive precedent for NHL GMs.

Agreeing to 4m, giving a sorta lukewarm presser then having your agent come back with 7m with no team success seems like a big risk on his part.

And no, I don't think it's a money thing really.

says who? lame duck has been used for a long time to mean last year of contract with no extension - for GM's coaches, etc

no success isn't accurate. Also the narrative about this being on Dubas' request is just speculation imo

Yeah, I mean, I defended Dubas for a long time but no success when it matters is unfortunately very accurate.

And yes, I believe the speculation that the new counter offer wasn't really in the ballpark of the previously agreed upon framework.
