I supported bringing Dubas back before because I was worried they’d hire some dinosaur and spend another decade in the wilderness. Still kind of am, tbh. But Shanahan has had decent instincts so far, so I’ll wait and see.
Dubas has been good, but there are lots of guys that could do as well with the resources this organization has. Even just the list of GM’s that have been hired since Dubas that arguably have their teams in equal or better positions is not really that short—Waddell, Zito, Drury, Francis, Brisebois, McCrimmon… That’s 1/5 of the league. So there are obviously other options.
Shanahan is right to hold out for someone who really wants the job and can handle the pressure, IMO. It’s one of the best gigs in sports. Whoever finally breaks through will be a hero forever.
