Wait why are we expecting a hockey player to act presidential?
Nope, they can act however douchey they like. If insulting the other team and their fans and random shots at respected guys like MAF are what they want to do... Good for them. They're welcome to it. It's just very Trump like.

Welcome to sports!

Not sure I really get the Trump analogy but think it’s fair to say it’s a bit douchey.

But also think there’s a little bit of to the victors go the spoils here… dude scored 66 points in 48 games the last two cup runs. At that point say whatever the fuck you want.

The guy is an incredible player. That's about it with him. Brett Hull-ish attitude.

I've no issue with him slinging it at the Habs fans. As you say, to the victors go the spoils.

Also, any fan of any team that sends shit like that should slammed down hard.

I think it needed to be said: Hab fans getting bashed now....and this board heavily bashed Canuck fans years ago for their ridiculous riots.

The argument is that Toronto is immune to that sort of nonsense. We will see (eventually)
I mean Toronto did recently win a major championship...without any rioting!

Really? I'm surprised you don't see the comparison.

After winning the Cup/election you insult your opponent and their fans/supporters.

Hell Fox News picked up the story for a reason.

Need more of that. It's the only thing that put hockey on the map in the US, which is probably the ultimate goal for the league. The actual product on the ice is certainly not helping!

I dunno. I've seen Montrealers or Vancouverites pull out this line before when defending their history of rioting, but it doesn't really ring true to me. The Raptors won a championship just a couple of years ago, and the Blue Jays went to the ALCS twice in the past decade. Farther back, between the 90's and the early 00's, the Jays won two championships and the Leafs made it to the third round four times.

Whatever the reason or underlying causes, the bottom line is there weren't riots in Toronto on any of those occasions.

statistically speaking, that's a small sample size over 30 years

allow me to explain the threshold effect in another way

imagine your local Best Buy getting its storefront smashed, a few bad actors seizing the opportunity to grab a few high end gadgets and then devolving into a full scale loot-fest.

I'm pretty sure you don't know anyone who would ever throw a garbage can that causes a storefront window to break (threshold zero person), you might not know anyone who would be among the initial group of looters (low threshold person), but you definitely know a bunch of people who would steal something after they saw 50 other people do it. (high threshold folks).

While I think TO is a fairly well behaved city, I don't believe it is immune to crowd dynamics gone wrong

I can't argue the track record...but things that never happened happen all the time.

I hope I'm wrong (as I live here) but I don't have faith that there's something inherently special about Toronto crowds.
