Yeah, for all the disputes we've had over the years about whether the goaltending was to blame and/or whether the forwards didn't step up, I don't care what happens the rest of the way. Matty and Marner can't have 1 combined goal against the Habs. Kinda unforgivable right now, but overlooked because we should be punting them out soon even without their offense.
 
Feel like Simmonds gets a lot flack because of the cap hit. I would bring him back on a minimum contract
 
The only member of the old man crew that I'd be interested in bringing back for another year would be Jason Spezza.

Thornton and Simmonds, even at the NHL minimum, I'd take a pass on. It's not that Simmonds has been awful or anything, but he's clearly a fourth liner at best, even if healthy. I'd rather his spot in the lineup goes to a kid, or to another veteran on a cheap deal that might have more upside.
 
yeah this is starting to turn into a we needed Patty out there type scenario. Not sure I'd be too interested in a Chucky return next year either. he's too shit defensively to merit what he gives you offensively.
 
This is really the great thing about having the big four and being an organization that treats players well and does a lot of the little things right - you're certainly not tied to the same guys every year. Every year there should be a fresh crop of league minimum players interested. I'd only bring back Spezza as well.
 
They're all just placeholders for the next wave of ELCs anyways.

Robertson, Amirov, Hallander could all be in the picture next year. Maybe some others.

I’d bring back Gally and Bogo too.

Simmonds hasn’t been anything special but to get a 15 goal pace with decent shot share from a million 4th liner is a solid pickup.
 
GForce is a guy who looks like he really wants to stick, willing to put in max effort, and he has the skill to keep up. I'd definitely try to keep him on a cheap two year deal. Bogo has been much better than I expected, but not sure there's room for him other than as a #7 if we hope to have Lilly and Sandin both in next year. Frankly, Lilly brings all of what Bogo brings, plus offense.

Spezza certainly has earned another year. Simmonds is awful and Thornton is completely cooked, so those guys need to be gone.
 
Just remember, Chucky can giveth yes but he can taketh as well. He tends to do the latter more over the long haul.
 
I hope the Leaf players like the bad media attention and the pressure they’ve put on themselves for game 7. In a way I’m feeling more relaxed about it. If they win, great. If they lose, I guess I should have expected as much.
 
So now it comes to how does this team let us down with the most effect on Monday. I’ve got one for us.

We bust out to a 4-0 lead, things are going fine but then Campbell gets injured in the 2nd and Freddy comes in. Freddy lets in 2 goals including the last one where Gallagher rams into him and knocking him out of the game. We promptly look to our zamboni driver for a miracle. Only to find this doesn’t happen to the Leafs and we lose 8-4.
