Obviously saying he’s maybe been our MVP is a bit of a stretch after Mattner’s seasons but without him stepping up we’d be in a lot of trouble. He’s been one of the biggest parts of our team, thus one of our MVP’s.

Jack is only one of the team’s “MVP’s” in the sense that he’s one of the players we can least afford to lose, since the organizational depth chart behind him is a flaming pile of infectious human waste.

But “MVP” in the sense that he’s in the conversation as one of our best players, or he’s playing an outsized role in carrying this team to victory? Just no.
 
And count me in on “Team play Campbell on both ends of the back-to-back”.

At some point a lot of people have become extremists about this “don’t play goalies on back-to-back nights” philosophy. It may not be optimal, but it’s a much better option than turning to Fred, Dave or Hutch.

And in the playoffs, you should be icing your best lineup every game. If it was a coin flip who our best goalie was, or we were up 3-0 in the series going into game 4, then you consider it. But that ain’t the case here.

I don’t agree. He’s one of the most important parts of the team. One of a handful of guys I’d call “one of our MVP’s.” Look how much we’ve won with him in net (and imagine where we’d be without him).

Never would have expected a team with Matthews marner Tavares Nylander Hyman Rielly muzzin and brodie would win a lot. Thank god for jack Campbell!

In that sense most teams MVPs are their goalies.

And we get to the real cause of the nhl's weird goalie obsession.

It's the most important position in hockey, by a lot.

But that doesn't make most goalies mvp.

And even the worst nhl goalies are still top 50 at their position in the world. The top 50 skaters are all superstars.

How many games has Campbell stolen that this team had no business winning? Not many, and that’s what he’d need to be doing to be an “MVP”.

What he has been doing is providing capable above-average NHL goaltending behind a team that’s one of the best offensive, defensive & possession clubs in the league, and keeping the servings of muffins to an absolute minimum.

yeah by no means is he a great goalie from what I've seen. he's got a very solid team in front of him that doesn't make a lot of mistakes.
 
Just to be clear, I’m saying I believe he’s one of the MVP’s of the team. I’m imagining where we’d be without him and he’s one of the more important pieces. We’d be forced to play Freddy otherwise. He stepped into the starter’s role very nicely for us and provided the stability we needed.
 
Well yeah every team would be bad if they had a shit goalie. Not sure how that makes the dude an MVP though.
 
I have to go with Jer on this one. Is he our best player no but he’s definitely the guy we can least afford to lose which kind of makes him the most valuable.
