the other thing to keep in mind is it is impossible to have universal 'rules' because not all people within x demographic/ethnic group will find y offensive. some will, others won't. I don't know the solution... your policy on not trying to offend people seems like a good place to start though.

it’s mostly attitude/intent to offend and honestly I find it best to defer to the subject of the term.
Better safe than sorry when you’re in an unfamiliar crowd
 
Ok all. At this point I'm looking at a thread that includes some unfortunate derogatory terms, finger pointing, back and forth that doesn't have an end goal in mind.

I'm going to lock the thread. Not because I want to stop the typical FI style "let's talk it out and move on" ...but because I don't think this is going to end anytime soon.

I ask you to please refrain from any culturally/racially insensitive remarks even if it's meant as a joke. Yes in this instance I don't think the original poster meant the post to be read and interpreted as it was.

I don't think I've ever locked a thread of this nature but this isn't going anywhere. Let's start fresh and let's focus on hockey.
