The Motherfucking 2021 Season Thread

Andersen getting the easiest PK work of the three goalies but still performing by far the worst.

The team defense can help cover for him 5v5 but much harder to do shorthanded.

yeah the Leafs are actually good defensively now the majority of nights. it's been a remarkable transformation. their PK should definitely be better than midpack.

Fred is the remaining weak link on this team. looks like a declining player. It's not a slump or a valley or whatever that we can expect him to come out of necessarily anymore. It's a pretty large sample size...and the worst part is, Fred's performance is trending downwards despite the team moving in the opposite direction defensively.

of course, there's not a peep of getting another goalie in the media. odd, because it's pretty obvious our record would be even better when you look at the goals we've allowed with Fred in the net. the difference between okay goalies and above average ones besides muffin count is how many undeflected and/or unscreened "normal" shots they let in. the more stoppable chances, in other words.

It is funny that even the media types that hate Dubas don't bring up Freddie's play as an excuse to criticize him. Because that was the one legitimate criticism you could've made of Dubas coming out of the off-season: that he left a fatal flaw in place in the most critical position on his hockey team, and when he should've known better based on Freddie's body of work in the playoffs and his play over the last year.

We'll see if he's got balls like Masai does, because that's what it'd take in this market for him to go out and find an upgrade on Freddie in time for this year's playoff run, rather than just taking the easy route of waiting for his contract to run out.

To TOR: W N.Foligno, C R.Nash
To CBJ: C A.Kerfoot, 1st round pick, 3rd round pick

Yes?

No thanks.

Those are two pretty unexciting players for us to be burning Kerfoot, a 1st rounder and all of our available cap space on.

What exactly is appealing about Foligno and Nash, anyway?

I assume they must have super-awesome xgfhdcbf%, or something.

But to me, they look like expensive and declining third-line calibre players. So I don’t really understand wanting to make these guys Dubas’s one big in-season move, and pay handsomely for it.

Heh this would be the opposite of that really - adding some good old truculence.

I would list positives as:

- they were both heavily relied on in defensive situations for an elite defensive team.
- both provide plenty of physicality and effort, and can skate
- foligno produces at a solid 2nd line rate even on a team without much offense and without much PP production.
- Nash produces at a fine enough 4th line rate in low offense CBJ but produced at a good 3rd line rate and even 2nd line rate in BOS and CAR where he played 3rd line minutes.

Basically imo it would improve us significantly in the defense and grit department while maintaining the offense too.
