So the longer they keep Fred off LTIR the more cap space they gain for the deadline? Basically use it once they are ready to make a deal?

You accrue more and more cap space for the deadline every day you’re below the cap ceiling. But not when you’ve got players on LTIR.

Hutch’s salary also doesn’t currently count against the salary cap, because when Campbell got injured, he was called up under an “emergency exception”.

Basically, a player cap be recalled and not count against the cap if:

  • Your amount of available cap space is less than the NHL minimum salary
  • You have fewer than 12 forwards, 6 defensemen or 2 goalies on the roster who are healthy
  • The player you’re calling up under the “emergency exception” has a salary that’s $800K or less

So, until they’re in a situation where they need Fred’s cap space for something, there’s no benefit to moving him onto LTIR.
 
Looks like the goalie we acquired for Lehtonen is done his quarantine:





It’s been my faint hope that, if Dubas is considering an Andersen trade, this is maybe what he was waiting for.

But probably not.
